So, coop & I arrived at McCarran Intl just after 11:00am local time after nearly missing our flight in Toronto because I left my phone charging at the Park n Fly. I didn't realize this until the lady at the airport check-in asked us for our itinerary & I started scrambling through all my pockets before realizing the itinerary on my phone was back at the Park n fly. Coop got on his phone trying to get someone from Park n Fly on the phone but everything was automated & he was transfered from message to message. I decided I had to do something or I'd be traveling to Vegas without my phone, which would have meant no trip report & an angry wife waiting for me at home so, I ran back to where the Park n Fly dropped us off & waited until another bus came by. No bus came by but, 300-400 yards away, I could see a Park n Fly bus & I started running towards it. I finally reach the bus & by this time I have about an hour & fifteen minutes before flight takes off. I board the buss after everyone gets off & tell the driver about the predicament I'm in & asked her if she could check for my phone back at the stand & run it back to me. Of course that wasn't an option but she said shed drive me back, wait to see if the phone was still there & drive me back to Pearson.
This lady drove like Jeff Gordon. In & out of traffic, honking at everyone.
Only in Toronto.
Well, wouldn't you know it, my good luck had already begun. Phone was right where I left it. I grabbed it ran out to the shuttle, and she races me back to the airport. I walk , make that run to the terminal & coop is at the front of the line & I tried to talk to the terminal lady while panting & out of breath. I just can't run like I used to when I was 40.
Finally got on the plane & arrived in paradise shortly after 11:00am & coop picked up the tab for the room on Thursday night. Good thing he did because I immediately lost $50 playing BJ & $50 on the utes.
Also dumped $25 on northwestern.
Good news was we got 2 scalped tix for the Pac12 late session for $65.
Won $18 on cal to cover. But besides that it was an expensive 1st day, after betting $10 show tickets in the racebook to get drink tickets.
Coop & I consumed over 70 drinks & sufficiently damaged our iron livers.
Then came the late night session of black jack with April from the Excalibur.
Nice girl. Treated us nice for over two hours then at the stroke midnight she turned on us. In leas than 10 she took over $300 from me. $250 of that was profit.
Might have been the alcohol or poor money management but, I'm gonna stick with, "It was April's fault!"
Woke up after 6 hours of sleep & had to start capping today's college games. Damn west coast.
So, the 1st day wasnt so great.
After a 1st day of impressive and dedicated drinking, I found myself down under $200 after paying for the Pac10 Tournament tickets, food & taking a pounding on The Utah Utes & at the BJ table. I felt the need to remain sober for as long as possible today.
Then things started to change.
These were the 1st bets I made on the second day:
After I left the sports book I went back to the same table April was dealing at. She of course had gone home for the night & thank God she did because I hit 6 of my 1st 8 bets & was quickly rolling with a green chip on two spots!
I couldn't believe that this was the same BJ table I lost at just hours before. The truth be told, it was the only 3-2 table available & that's why I sat.
I hit for $420.
After that I went to another table & hit for a quick $100. Then went to another BJ table & hit for $550. That was an Insane hit!
I was in for $50 & ran it up to(I am guessing) $260, then went on a terrible 7 hand run & I remember looking down, I chipped out my stack & I had $137 and I bet $118 on one hand & the rest on the other. I was dealt pocket 7's & a BJ. I reached in my pocket pulled out two more 100'$ & split them. on the 1st 7 i was dealt, Yup, another 7.
So, I reached back in my pocket & pulled out anther $100. As you can see in the picture I took, I can't remember what I had on the other two hands but I do remember she drew 25!
Thats well over $400 in one deal of the cards. On the table in front of me was nearly $800 & all of it was mine & I earned it in less that 5 mins.
It didn't stop there.
Every limit game I bought into for the minimum & couldn't lose.
I would buy in for the minimum & 10 mins later I would double up;
At the Bellagio $4-$8 game with a half kill. I'd buy in for the minimum & 45 mins later I was the chip lead:
Then 45 mins after that .....I was simply dominating everyone at the table:
For that entire day I was virtually unstoppable.
Then next day was the same. Every poker room I'd walk into, I'd buy in for minimum:
......and cash out for stacks upon stacks:
And racks upon racks:
This was walking around money:
I could not miss a flop & I was never chased down. When my pocket pair was lower than my opponents, I would suck out a terrible & disgusting flush on the river. If I ran into over cards after a PF shove, I would turn trios & river a full house.
When I was in the sports book at MGM Grand I bet $4.40 on a .¢20 Superfecta & it paid over $1,ooo.oo
I walked over to the poker room to show mike the ticket & watched him play a hand of $20-40. He rivered trips 8's & win a $300+ pot.
We were drinking out by the pool.
Just enjoying life.
Then All of a sudden it was time to go home. "No way "I thought. I walked Coop to the front of the Excalibur where the taxi/valley is, saw him off to McCarran & I walked back to the registration desk & got a room at The Excalibur that night.
The next day was full of sports bets that went 80%+ so, I decided to upgrade a little & booked a ro at the Luxor.
I won a lot that day too ! !
So, I decided to spend some cash again & stay at one my favorite Casinos, the Monte Carlo.
Since the winning never stopped, I started playing higher stakes, like $1-$2 NL & $25min BJ & I couldn't lose at those tables either. Whether it was beating down drunk tourists at Harrah's or watching a dealer bust on 4 aces in a row......i could not lose.
Then next thing I know, I have just left the sports book & I am sitting in a jacuzzi holding my $200 ticket watching my game in the Augustus Tower at Caesar's fukkin Palace.
How the fukk does that happen?
This trip report was unique because I was finally able to take this thread to a different level. I think its neat to see what its like to struggle in Vegas & have to stay in terrible hotels. (NOT a comment on TERRIBLES HOTELS® Specifically)
But, to be able to see the side of Vegas offered to those who have alot of money.
I don't have a lot of money & I never will have a lot of money so, I don't feel any shame when I pretend that I do have a lot of money. Even if it can only be for a few days a year.
Las Vegas can change your whole week, it can also be year changing.
Some people plan to go to Vegas for 4 days & those 4 days are life changing.
In less than 24 hours I took $170 & turned it into $2,300.00. Then the next day I more than doubled it.
Coop, a Corporate LLitigator, was impressed with how much I made per hour!
In less than 36 hours I had gambled & earned $4,40o.OK. at a rate of $235.00/h.
For a ROI in the thousands! (I might be making that number up)
Either way, no matter what happened, I was going home to $2,800.Oo Can, that I sent back home. Then my wife used some of that, to come see me & take a well deserved vacation in Vegas.
This trip was also unique because I was able to see a lot of casinos that
I have never seen before.
And some that I have been to before but wish I hadn't waited so long to return to:
Here are some of the $1 chips I collected this trio & what they looked like when I came to Vegas for the 1st time:

Here's what the matches used to look like at the The Excalibur back then.
I hadnt been to these hotels before
And this place was really quiet & full of old people. ...even older than JayVegas.
Don't know wow I ended up all the way out here!
A few other casinos I may never return to, as they are way off-strip:
And guess who drove me to all these places?
Yea that's right folks. I met & hung out with the infamous JJ Gold. He arrived at the Excalibur sports book on Tuesday, shortly before Mrs. Jayvegas & I arrived. As soon as I saw him I knew who it was. He seemed a little surprised that I recognized him but I think its safe to say that anyone who is a regular here at SBR would immediately recognize JJ .
I am still convinced that if it weren't for my wife accompanying me, he wouldn't have agreed to meet me so, I left them alone at the back of the book, to allow her time to charm him a little. She has this way about her that everyone finds elegant & engaging.
Also I needed to make a grapefruit bet before the game started!!!
As I walked back from the wicket I could hear her unmistakable laugh. JJ had her in stitches a mere 2 minutes after meeting him.
I showed JJ the teams I took & he gave me some words of encouragement but more than sports, he appeared to be more focused on finding a place to eat.
I obviously suggested a buffet, because I'm Jayvegas & JJ was quick to decline & asked if there were any good restaurants in the casino. We went upstairs & I suggested BUCA. A reasonably priced Italian restaurant.
We were seated by our waitress Cynthia & ordered our food. JJ had a pasta dish & my wife ate the meatball sandwich. I told Cynthia I would just be drinking today because, I'm Jayvegas.
JJ said the food was good & I ended up having 1/2 of my wife a sandwich. I have to agree, even though I'm a fussy eater, it was really good. At the end of the meal Mrs Jayvegas invited JJ to the pool & he declined at 1st but when she said that she was going upstairs to get pool clothes on he reluctantly changed his mind.
She said, "I'll leave you guys alone to talk for a bit & then meet you two at the pool." I reminded her that she would have to come back to the restaurant because we would need the room key to gain access to the pool.
"Oh yeah.", she said & it was then We could all see Cynthia walking towards our table & jj looks right at Mrs. Jayvegas & says, " Could I borrow a couple of dollars, I promise I'll pay you back, its just that i forgot My wallet in the car & don't wanna walk all the way back."
"Oh yeah, no worries." She replied & it was then JJ said, "I'm just kidding. Its on me."
"What would you guys do if I was serious?" He asked.
The three of us laughed & I swear I had a tear in my eye, I was laughing so hard.
Mrs Jayvegas left to go get changed & it was just JJ & I.
There was no finger waving or toupee throwing. There was no tap cok or footsies under the table. We talked about posters, some we liked & some we didn't. We talked about the site mostly but we also discussed his stay in Vegas & some other topics about his time in Vegas so far. It was about as normal as a conversation can be. Respectful, insightful & constantly interesting.
I could have spent hours talking with him but, Mrs Jayvegas returned to our table & was ready to go to the pool.
More than gambling or drinking or shows or shopping she enjoys tanning by the pool more than anything. I still can't wrap my head around it but when Mrs Jayvegas says that we are going to the pool, "we are going to the pool."
I could tell that JJ wasnt going to stay out by the pool all day but he stayed for a short while & entertained us thoroughly. He allowed me to take that photo of him leaning on a garbage can. I thought that was classic & I had a few laughs when it actually fooled a couple of SBR posters. I don't know who enjoys that stuff more, him or I?
The forensic analysis of the shoe comparison was fukkin hilarious!
Before he left I told him that I had to get a picture with him & he graciously complied but, there was a condition. We didn't want to let everyone know right away that we all met. So I played along & kinda followed His lead in the forms.
I can be a little naive & excitable at times & I would meet anyone anywhere but, JJ made a good point. Its not always easy for people to get into a meeting strangers mode. I think what he was trying to tell me was that, "you can't please all the people all of the time."
Its easier for a poster like me who has 10-15 consistent followers to meet people, but its a little harder for JJ who has thousands of followers.
Before he leaves the pool he asks us if we had ever been to Red Rock?
Of course we responded NO & guess what this guy does? He offers to drive us there in his own car & show us around. I omitted JJ from all the videos I took at Red Rock but I can assure he was there. I know this because he refused to allow Mrs. Jayvegas or I to pay for lunch again!
And it was a great lunch. It was called the Weiner's Circle & it was my kinda place. Thick burgers with fresh cut fries! I love burgers & fries because I'm Jayvegas!
As you could see in the videos we checked out the poker room, the restaurants & most Importantly the sports book.
Red Rock Casino & Resort: http://youtu.be/nvNOoNnM7ZE
Sports book @ Red Rock: http://youtu.be/i9XE2z2XzzI
The Red Rock resort itself is phenomenal but the scenery & surrounding landscape is breathtaking.
As soon as we walked into the Sports book I saw on one of the screens that a local driver from my hometown was racing at Yonkers so I had to make a bet. I put $5 across on him & promptly lost a quick $15. I don't mind though because it gave me a reason to call my Dad & tell him who I was with & who I bet on & where I was. My Dad is an anonymous reader here at SBR & is a huge JJ Gold fan so he was even more excited than I was when he got My call.
For a guy who says he is not that familiar with Vegas JJ sure took us to a lot of interesting places. After Red Rock he said he would drive us to see some cool off-strip casinos but then he has a brilliant idea & mentioned the Las Vegas Gamblers Bookstore.
I'm so glad he sis because fukkin lived it.
When we got there I was literally like a kid in a candy store. I bought chips, decks of cards, key chains & was able to find 3 books written by my favorite author, Dr. Alan Schoonmaker. My wife said I could only get two things. Even though I just went on one of my most epic gambling runs, she still put me on a budget.
It didn't work though. I kept wearing her down until she let me buy nearly everything I wanted. Then on The way out I saw that they had 2 decks of COPAG's for about a seventh of what the sell for in Canada, so after another tantrum I was allowed to buy them!
It wasn't until she made me realize that JJ wasn't there to watch me shop for an hour, that I realized I was being a little selfish & it was time for JJ to drive us back to the Excalibur.
The drive back to the Excalibur again was a nice ride with a lot of funny & interesting conversation.
That reminds me, when I txtd JJ before he picked us up, I asked him what kinda vehicle we would be looking for & here was his reply.
Meeting JJ only added to the unexpected enjoyment of this entire trip. If I could have spent the entire week with him I would have.
I think anyone would.
Conclusion........
