Americans only care about sports they're good at. They have over 300 million people but can't put together a decent team for soccer. They are not the best in Water Polo, Handball, What these sports don't matter? Why not? Because America is not good at them? Most sports require money to play. Baseball & football require equipment. Maybe a gym membership to get a little muscle on you. Most sports are also a little more complicated. Ever try to explain the rules of football to your girlfriend?

It doesn't take anything to play soccer. Just some dirt, something to call a ball, and a few cola cans to mark the boundaries. It's also simple to play. Kick the ball between the goal without using your hands. Easy enough.

And since the majority of people are broke and dumb...anyone can play and understand it...thus its popularity takes off.

The money in the US is in other sports, so the top athletes play where the money is. While someone from the US could make big $ in soccer they'd have to move to another country. There's a reason why athletes from other countries come to the US to play basketball and baseball...$$$.

The tactics, the ball possession, the through balls, the pride, the passion, the ability for any team to win on any day, the players play for the city, not the name on the back. Soccer fans appreciate the drama that comes in every game. The build ups are the most entertaining part of the game. The ball going in is just a 1 second part of the game. People are not entertained about a goal as much as they are the chances, the runs, the commitment to defend etc.

hockey this yr is outkilling NBA in attendance.. and, they are even beating them in TV ratings. that's right, NHL is getting better ratings than NBA this yr. Bruins, Blackhawks, Flyers alone are getting 3x more tv viewers than Celtics, Bulls and Sixers. Even in a city like Dallas, the Stars there are almost equal in total viewers avg per game as the Mavs this yr ..and the Mavs won it all 2 yrs ago. and this is texas to boot.


This is impressive that hockey has more viewers than NBA because hockey is only played in 30% of the U.S. Population, compared to 100% for NBA. So i disagree that hockey is not big in U.S. it's getting up there. NHL setting record ratings this yr.

A wrapped newspaper can become a ball and bring together kids in Africa who are poor. You won't find that in soccer. Soccer players can do it for 90 minutes in 11 different positions ( you should get excited for that one). You never know when Baseball is going to end, Soccer is black and white. Soccer is a universal sport known by all.

Not much soccer being played in the cities of our country, our best athletes are in the NBA and NFL.
