The Tennessee Volunteers football team has reportedly offered Oklahoma State Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy the same position with their program, according to Bruce Feldman ...
i cant see him being very successful in SEC either
but on the other hand, this fanbase wont be happy with any1 else thats left....not that he was on any1s wishlist either
He did a great job in Stillwater but I'm sure we can both agree..to be successful and consistent in the SEC you HAVE to A- tackle and B- run between the tackles on the defenses otherwise you will not make a run for the title.
I'll cheer him on as a 7-7 style coach where you just lineup and toss the ball around as if there are no defenders but nowhere near ready to field a program in the SEC yet.

Fedora is on their list but he would owe UNC 2.35 million if he left by Jan 15, 2013.

I'm going to hate it when Kirby leaves Tuscaloosa. WELL deserving of a head coaching slot somewhere but I think he might stay another year or so with Saban. He's making almost $1 Mill already and each time he delivers Saban has been asking for bumps in his guys' pay as well so Smart can easily stay with his current gig, which looks promising for another few years with 3 out of 4 years in the BCS and a load of talent coming in to fill in his system he has now. Making more $$ than he would at other schools and has full reign of the Defense on a championship team without the details that go into being head honcho at the big schools - the CEO aspect since programs like Bama and LSU or a Texas etc are basically cash machines and a business or brand.

I would be ok with him, but anything below him and the fan base will be pissed.
As far as his buyout goes, that shouldn't be an issue. UT is ready to pony up the money needed to get "their guy". He is obviously not their guy, but they would be glad to toss him 2.5 mil to keep from continuing to move down the list.

why don't they ever just throw money at who they really want? that is what baffles me. they just did this three years ago. if Strong was their guy why not make him an offer he could not refuse? Say the go the Fedora route and agree to pay for his buy out you would have spent more on the guy than who you really wanted.

I agree, but it was horrible timing with Dooley. Kiffin screwed them on that by leaving when he did.
If they don't get their guy this time there is no one to blame.

last reports was of Strong reworking his deal with Louisville. In a side note Fedora did talk with Dave Hart while they was in New York.
