No, because the article is about who GMs would pick for MVP, not who they'd rather have for the future. Anyone would rather have Trout for the next 10 years, but that wasn't what Olney asked the GMs.

I don't know why you'd say that. Just click the link and even if you don't have Insider you can see what the article is about.

Yisman you are right bud. Trout is awesome and had a better year. I cant bother here anymore. A guy wins the triple crown. Whats the point of the name "triple crown". Lets give MVP's to guys who hit 30 homers and get 50 steals.

You didn't respond to any of my points and when I posted an article, you didn't read that either.

I didn't say to give MVPs to guys who hit 30 homers and get 50 steals. That combination was just for the "oh look Cabrera did something really special and Trout had an average year" argument earlier in the thread.

The reason Trout deserves the MVP isn't because he accomplished 30/50.

Guys, who the hell cares that the Angels had a better record, I don't?

Tigers don't decide what division they play in! They did what it took to get in the playoffs, and without Cabrera, this team isn't even close.

Miguel led the league in HR, RBI and AVG.....the 3 stats that historically players are measured on. I don't necessary agree that they are the most important, but regardless, this is how players are measured, and usually how salaries are determined at the bargaining table. Trout hit the league by storm, and will be a terrific talent for years to come, and will win some MVP's in his day I'm sure. But not today, Triple Crown on a division winner....vs a terrific talent who fell short on the big offensive categories on a team that finished 3rd.

            Cmon guys.

I guess we will just have to wait and see who wins.
I think there are alot of valid points. But personally, I THINK the writers of baseball give it to the Triple Crown winner! Thats all Im saying!

And just you guys know, I do think that what Trout did was more impressive then what Cabrera did this year.

With that said, the Triple Crown is one of those nostalgic feats that I doubt is overlooked.

to be honest I only saw Trout play the field a handful of times, I think the big sportscenter plays stick in our head more.

maybe he didn't deserve gold glove

it doesn't have to do with that. it is about zone rating and his ability to cover ground in centerfield. not highlight plays. just because a player makes a diving catch doesn't make it a good defensive play if a better defender could have gotten a better jump with more speed to get there standing up then fire it into 3rd to prevent the runner from advancing.

we can argue that the current defensive metrics aren't the best, but they aren't so far off to make up for significant difference in trout's value over cabrera.

I already said I thought Cabrera would win the MVP.

This thread is about how awards are not given to the players who deserve them.

Adam Jones won a gold glove despite being a subpar center fielder.

                        From November 1:

He doesn't deserve it, but awards often don't make much sense. Derek Jeter has won five Gold Gloves, and he never has been the best fielder at his position.

Andre Dawson won an MVP when he wasn't among the top 10 hitters in the league.

Tim Kurkjian voted for Cabrera, but said Trout was the best player in baseball this year.

Trout is finished, time to find a new hero.

This thread was about the 2012 season.
