I happen to think it's a combination of the two: both falling demand and oil industry tactics. Obviously, there is currently lower demand. However, for years, there have been calls to investigate speculation in the oil market. With the amount of capital that the oil industry holds, it is not far-fetched to believe that they can't be manipulating the markets by buying up futures contracts. The pure volume they make retail would far outperform any losses they'd incur on those trades. While this cannot be proven currently, it should have been investigated. Now it is too late it would seem. The political climate has changed and that activity seems to have subsided for now.

Not everyone here feels the need to post their wagers, personally I make one a day and post it in SBR best bets daily. If I was making more than one a day there is no way id take the time to post them.Some of us have real lifes and dont sit on here all day, no offence to the mods/paid posters.

Supply is more or less fixed in the short run. Oil wells can't be opened or closed over night. It's due to low demand.

If speculators were the cause of previously high prices, how can they also be the cause of the now low price? If you look at the stats, there are almost always as many 'speculators' betting the price is going to rise as there are people betting it's going to go down. Just like more or less even volumes on both sides of a football game (though of course favorites and overs are systematically overbet).

You have to look at the overall trend. If demand is falling more than supply, then prices will decrease overall. There is more at work than a policy announcement by China or OPEC cutting production.
