Pats were down 4 i believe at there own 1 yd line late in 4th quarter with all there timeouts left
he didnt want to punt. figured he would have a better chance with the free kick pinning them deeper.
Pats ended up winning the game. fukkin genius. pinned them with the free kick and got the ball back
anyone remember that gameComment -

#78So fuckin crooked! If they take the safety it puts them up by 9 points... even if Seattle gets the onside kick.. most they can do is score a TD and go for two and by some sort of miracle score 8 points... SF would still be up by one... that was silly crooked!Comment -

#80Yeah but the 21 yard line wasn't where he needed to get to, it was like the 21 and a half.Originally posted by jrmartin.migThe tip of the football is at the far edge if the paint on the 21 yard gashmark in the replay. #81Good post.Originally posted by Chi_archiehey strange things happen free kick it the 10 yards and get a good hope and recover, one deep pass for a td
do a traditional onside kick, run 2-3 plays get in fg range, kick the winning kick.
.001% chance of it happening. But I think a kneel down is even less risky
It's a decision based on math.
Now try to convince paranoid Mikail of this.Comment -

#82After thinking about this some more i agree .Originally posted by dante1nope smart coach call, no fix.
without the safety they get the ball and no chance of seattle winning
wit the safety chance they don't get the ball and seattle has a chance of winning
yes the chance is 1 in a million but without the safety the chance is zero.
smart call
I didn`t have a cent on either side of this gameComment -

#83Possibility of injuries.Originally posted by SlickRick1382Someone please explain to me (other than conspiracy theories) why in the world would SF decline that penalty?
They get the safety, get 2 points, they get the ball back anyway, fair catch the safety kick, kneel and game is over anyway.
What's the reasoning behind not taking the 2 points and declining?Comment -

#85you can place kick a free kick. I guess have a holder. you just can't use a tee. you could also drop kick it with a bounce off the ground.
so its theoretically possible to onside it, without having to do a free kick punt onside squib. which you'd just try to softly line drive it maybe 15 -20 yards and away from where all the guys are lined up.
I don't know, i'd loved to have seen it though. doubt many special teams practice to receive one like thatComment -

amazing people bet on a sport they don't know the rules of
A free kick after a safety can either be a punt or a kickoff, including an onside kick
Either way, you can not use a tee on that kickoff, so the onside would be a bit harder with a holder.Comment -

injury factor
why even risk it
kneel down and games over
had seattle gotten the line to gain for 1st down he would of accepted the holding penalty for safety

#100No worries. I still like ya haha. It was the right call. You end the game. I think the punt would have been fair caught. Would have been hard to get an onside kick from that spot, and even harder for Seahawks to win, but why risk it.
