#19I can see where your coming from and sort of agree. But I broke down the conferences based on the standings and what place they are in.Originally posted by bigboydanMuch better talent and the Big10 teams win where it really counts, which is bowl games.
Alright lets take a look at this: if the 1st place team played each other and then 2nd played 2nd and so on who would win?
Penn State vs. Florida
Mich State vs. Alabama
OSU vs. Georgia
Minnesota vs. LSU
Northwestern vs. Vandy
illinois vs. Ole Miss
Iowa vs. South Carolina
Purdue vs. Auburn
Indiana vs. Arkansas
Michigan vs. Tennessee
Wisconsin vs. Miss StateComment -

#23Every year we hear that certain other conferences are better than the SEC. The same holds true this year. But then when the teams match-up, we get these facts:
SEC has won 3 of the past 5 titles. Auburn (13-0 in 2004) should count as 4. The SEC has won all four of its BCS games in 2007 & 2006 by a combined score of 161-62.
Any talk of another conference eclipsing the SEC comes from regional die-hards who allow their bias to get in the way of the facts: the SEC rules college football.Comment -

#24The problem here is with perception. People just assume a team that scores a lot of points is better than a team that has a great defense. When the 2 are exactly equal in importance.
With that being said, the Big12 has some of the worst defenses I've ever seen in a conference this year. Whereas the SEC has great defenses and a lot of really good offenses, a few great offenses.
The measuring stick is that which conference, the Big12 or the SEC, has scores that resemble NFL scores more. By far it is the SEC because of the great defenses. Totals in the SEC are usually in the upper 30's to upper 40's, just like the NFL. Totals in the Big12 are in the 60's and 70's. That means horrid defense.
Alabama would obliterate any Big12 team you throw at them. They are great on both sides of the ball. If they played in the Big12 they would be scoring 70 a game too.
Also there is the year in and year out factor. The SEC puts more players in the NFL every year than any other conference. The SEC is the best college football conference for the past 20 years all together and will be from now on. The reason is very simple. Demographics.
However the Big12 has some great quarterbacks this year. Unusually packed with great QB's. But these guys are no better than Matthew Stafford or Tim Tebow, they just play against high school defenses week in and week out.Comment -

#29Big 12 right now. The qb play is the difference. It is great in the Big 12 right now, and awful in the SEC.
The qb play in the Big 12 far outweighs any defensive differences between the the conferences.
The Big 12 puts many defensive players in the NFL each year.Comment -

#30I don't understand why the public thinks the Big 12 is so good. They score a bunch of points AGAINST BIG 12 TEAMS, but put them in the SEC and those SEC defenses would eat them alive. The speed and athleticism of the SEC cannot be overstated. Texas Tech would not be undefeated in the SEC right now. That is a fact. It's fun to watch them pass the ball and put up all those points against weak Big 12 defenses, but put them up against a top SEC defense and suddenly they are hit with the hard reality of SEC football and it wouldn't be pretty. A quarterback can't pass the ball as well when lying on his back. Let those Red Raiders play Florida, then the next week go to Georgia, then come back home to play Alabama, then go on the road again to play South Carolina, then come home to play LSU, etc. It's not just the quality of the teams (which is superior), but the quantity and having to play those physical and relentless teams week in and week out for the entire season. It wears on teams and that is why it is so hard to go to the National Championship if you are an SEC team. They just beat up on each other. It is another reason why a lot of other conferences do not want a playoff system: Nobody wants to see two SEC teams play for the National Title every year.Originally posted by bigboydanThe SEC is OVERRATED every year coach.Comment -

I agree with you, Big 10 blows compared to SEC and Big 12. They play SEC year after year and get blown out of the water. That is why I hope Penn St doesn't get to the championship game because I actually want to see a game this year instead of a college team vs a high school squad.Comment -
