#81The possession rule affecting the CHI-DET ending should be changed
Bob Costas said it goes against common sense. He's right. The Detroit receiver catches what should have been the game winner, and drops the ball only after he's on the ground after securely grabbing a long pass.
Other than that, thank god for the rule, as I'd otherwise be bounced from a survivor pool in week one

#94Tony Dungy, who rarely says anything interesting, made the great point that these situations are coming up because the NFL has tried to create a technical, black-and-white rule for these catches. They need to hand it back to common sense/judgement calls by the officials. I am sure the vasy majority of NFL watchers, players and coaches feel that what the Detroit reciever (was it Johnson?) performed was a catch. If an over-technical rule results in calls being made that feel wrong to most everybody then the rule is at fault.Comment -

#105It might me semantics. It was not an awful call in the sense that it was correct under the rules. It was an awful cal, however, in that application of this rule created a feeling on injustice.Originally posted by ChamboklWhat is he suppose to say.... that the referee is useless... Should the rule be changed? Yeah, probably, although that would likely lead to a different controversy over whether a ball that we all think was dropped was deemed a catch.
My final thought is this. If Johnson takes care of the ball, this archaic rule is not being talked about. Two hands, son. Two hands.Comment
