Steelers are trying to send a message I believe. I don't know if Holmes might have had other problems with the Coaching staff...but only getting a 5th round pick for him is a STEAL for the Jets. Steelers don't want any part of his troubles with the law anymore.

True and if your Offense starts scoring in bunches, suddenly you are not a "Defensive Team." But that Offensive Line is one of the best I have ever seen.

wow the jets should win the afc east without problems, are the jets.

My steelers need to sign T.O., it looks like the steelers are going to run a lot the ball and hopefully be the defensive juggernaut they used to be. if they want to go to the playoffs next year. The Afc is going to be tough

I think Wallace emerging in a solid rookie campaign made them feel more comfortable in pulling the trigger on this one...still, even if he is was to be suspended for the first 4 weeks of the season, still think he could have gone for a solid 4th?!?

Their are 31 teams out there that would gladly give up a 5th rounder for Holmes.
So why would you trade him to a contender, a team that is in your conference and a team that is on your schedule this year???

He's going to miss the first four games of the season, and then he'll be a FA after the season.

Plus, he's not an elite WR. He should be a good #2 receiver for the Jets.

Remember that the Ravens got Anquan Boldin for a 3rd and a 5th, and he's much better than Holmes and wasn't facing legal problems.

I have to disagree that he is not an elite reciever(guess you missed the superbowl play of the century)....Of course I am born and raised in Pittsburgh and bleed black and gold. He is a great reciever and makes those types of clutch plays all of the time. The fact that he has a drug problem as well as an abusive history is prob the reason why he is outta here. A. Randle El is not going to be the same guy from the first time around and Hines isnt getting any younger although I believe he still has a few good years left. Mike Wallace is an emerging star and Heath Miller is always solid. All that being said it may be a long year for Steeler nation esp if Ben ends up getting suspended. The Jets win here big time as long as he can keep himself out of trouble.

Of course I saw the play. I saw it live and on replay about 100 times.

One play means you're an elite receiver? I guess Nate Poole is an elite receiver, then.

Holmes is a good WR, but nowhere close to Boldin, Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, etc.

And did you miss the part about him being suspended and this being the last year of his contract?

o im late on this story, I thought this was about him throwing that shot glass. I didnt even realize he had got suspended. ya the 4 game suspension definitely hurt his value. And apparently the steelers were ready to just cut holmes, and the jets came to them, so steelers prolly happy to get a draft pick out of it.

12 games max and hes FA. Plus it allows Rooney to send a message he desperately wants to send right now. This trade is not nearly as one-sided as it seems.
