Don't worry about the hate man. I buy points all the time...and know what? It's saved me countless times. Sure, sometimes I waste the extra juice, but if I can make a solid pick even more solid and give myself peace of mind who gives a rat's? Its your money and your picks, do what you want.

unfortunately you're killing your long term profits. most amateur bettors just don't realize this. they see how 1 game was saved because they buy the point. but if you keep a log of all the point buys you will see that the extra juice you are paying when you lose adds up to more than the money saved by buying the points.

that's why the books offer you points. it's like a suckers bet in craps. the house gains an extra huge advantage over you.

buying points all the time is wasteful over the coarse of a year and longer. maybe it works in a month. but for the lifetime of you betting, you are basically giving away profits. if you don't like a bet at that line, find the next line. it's hard enough to hit 53% to break even betting -110 lines...when you bet -120 and -130 lines that percentage goes up just to BREAK EVEN.
