hahaha. i'm laughing like an idiot watching this game. i figured VCU would press, GMU wouldn't handle it well and produce good tempo, but this was way beyond anything i'd imagined. i think that my favorite score was 32-4 with 11:15 remaining 1H. gotta love 80 1H points for a 131 point over. i should probably middle with the 2H under 71' but think i'm passing, particularly with the potential for elimination game FTs due to Mason giving extra fouls late since this is technically their tourney life. VCU/Drexel should be an excellent game.

what struck me was the difference in style from most other Big Ten regular season games the past month. these games were much more open and had a more foul calls, for whatever reason.

I can never tell with Big Ten games. Officiating is just awful for the most part. Did you see the foul on Thomas yesterday vs. Nix in the MSU/OSU game? Nix had Sullinger one-on-one -- literally no other player around him. Nix draws the foul, makes the basket, would have been Sullinger's fourth, yet Valentine calls it on Thomas, then goes to the monitor and confirms it and keeps it on Thomas. Unreal. Just the worst.

yeah, that was a pretty awful call. clearly the foul should've been on Sullinger. going to the monitor made it worse.

as for senior nights, Big Ten regular season games are pretty tight and the refs let guys play, and teams play in a possession-oriented manner that goes with the officiating. maybe, given that it's end of regular season/senior night/teams' places in conference standings pretty much set, teams open it up and refs follow suit by calling more fouls. i love Big Ten hoops, and don't mind that there are many ugly games, but no question the senior night games this week were a departure from the norm and many were wide open.

Stephen Holt is out for St. Mary's, which hurts their perimeter defense, and i will admit that i'm an unabashed fan of Kevin Pangos. this is chance for St. Mary's to wrap up regular season and conference tourney crown for first time ever, and this is a huge rivalry - Zags do not want to allow that to happen (i read some quotes from Zags players about that). Zags also red-hot right now, better defensively and St. Mary's struggles to defend the three (a problem i think will be exacerbated by the absence of Holt). so, i give Zags an edge in motivation, health, current form, defense/perimeter defense, and i think that Pangos will be the best player on the court.
