The Lions have four starters back from what turned out to be a pretty solid WCC squad. They have a solid backcourt + frontcourt stud Drew Viney who averaged over 17 ppg in 2009. They get a Bradley squad that had troubles in their opener against a poor Northern Illinois club. Bradley has four starters back as well, but this team has not shot well yet and realy struggles from the line. That's a spot the Lions have done well at so far and it could make a difference tonight.

I think this total got a little bump because of WVU's opener against Oakland. Thing there is the 95-71 scoreline is indicative of Oakland's tempo, not WVU. The Mountaineers still prefer a defensive minded approach I think and I believe that coupled with the relative inexperience of Davidson could lead to a scoreline below this total.

Stupid maybe, but there's a lot of love for Coastal Carolina that I don't quite comprehend. Coastal will be a good team later in the year, but right now I think they are lacking one of their key pieces, a South Carolina transfer. Yes, the Hoyas need to get better at putting teams away, but I think their strength offensively so far - shooting the three - proved to be kryptonite for Coastal against Charleston as they gave up 12/26 from beyond the arc. That led Charleston to a 55-27 2nd half surge over Coastal. Georgetown's defense will be the best Coastal has seen and if they keep them in-check and the Hoyas shoot from the perimeter, I think it finishes closer to 20. We'll see how stupid does on this one. I am stupid.

This is a cross-town rivalry with SC Upstate and Wofford. Wofford is clearly the better team with four returning starters, but the young kids at Upstate will likely have some adrenaline early to go against some kids they know at the "bigger" school. Upstate is still not quite accustomed to D1 play, but I think they will at least fight in the 1st half before Wofford pulls away. Dumb reasoning? Yes. Follow that stupid. I am stupid.

Time to calm down and go on a college hoops diet. Too much action eating. Going to relegate myself to five picks max per day. Hard not to go crazy early. I did and losing might have helped in the long run.
11.18.10: [6:00pm ET] EAST CAROLINA +13 [-110]
ECU is likely to start both Brock Young and Chad Wynn tonight which will be a boost. Young is a necessary cog in Jeff Lebo's machine this season. ECU is returning five starters if they can all get on the floor. NC State struggled shooting against Tennessee Tech, but won by 13 thanks in part due to 31 free throws made. Frosh forward CJ Leslie is a stud and one to watch for the Wolfpack. He had 21 in his debut. ECU will need to make some outside shots to stay within this number and should look to attack the glass as NC State was outworked big on the boards against Tech. Monitor lineups for a final check to see if Young & Wynn are in. If not, will probably stay away from this in the end.

Been watching this line come down today and like Georgetown, pouncing. Some might be scared off that the young Heels beat Lipscomb by "only" 14 in their opener, but that was a quality club that won their conference in 2009-2010. Hofstra has one huge talent in Jenkins in the backcourt. Outside of that, they are going to be searching for scoring help and adjusting to a new coach. UNC must shoot free throws better to ensure a more comfortable winning margin, but I think their athleticism, versatility and size will wear down Hofstra in the end.

Have not found any further updates on Young or Wynn for this ECU game. Going to stick with the play and hope the ECU website was right about them likely playing, but go a little smaller on it because if they're out, NC State I think will win by 15 or more.Comment -
11.18.10: [7:00pm ET] WESTERN KENTUCKY +5 [-120]
Minnesota had some problems with Siena's athleticism in letting the Saints hang around in their 76-69 win. Western Kentucky poses the same sort of problem except they have even more athletic talent. OU transfer Juan Patillo has already registered two double-doubles and teams with athletic swingmen Steffphon Pettigrew & Sergio Kerusch to give the Hilltoppers some pop in the frontcourt. Minnesota counters with more height, but not quite as athletic up front. I think both teams defend fairly well, but WKU has shown some better pop from beyond the arc. FTs could be a deciding factor where both teams have struggled. I think WKU will keep this close and this is a chance for them to score a good RPI building win as well.

St.Peter's is without their best player, senior Wesley Jenkins, who is nursing a knee injury. The Peacocks could be a decent team when he returns, but they will have trouble scoring in the mean time as evidenced by their 30 point output in their opener. They were crushed by Robert Morris in their opener by 25, shooting 17%! ODU played Georgetown tough, losing by three. All five starters are back from last year's NCAA squad. Their stifling defense should be plenty to stop St.Peter's today. If ODU shoots well and controls the boards, I think they can run away with this one in the end.
