Make it or Break it in 2009, My Play of the Day $eason Thread

Doesn't seem that many posters are really focusing on college basketball right now with football still in the wing. I figure, I should chip in my two cents and see how good I really am. Hopefully I can help some fellow posters on the way too, if any. I'm confident that by the end of the regular college basketball season, my play of day picks will be over 60% or Better. Starting this Saturday 12/27/08, I will be posting one "Play of the Day pick" with a short analysis on the game. I might also add another late night pick if the first hits, but my goal here is to keep things simple and not try to over analyze things.

My current SBR best bet record is only 52-44-2 +6.90. I have peak as high as +11.90 while going as low as +1.90. I don't do those ridiculous chalk moneyline crap, so my units and record is a true -110 line. I think my unit counts would be a lot higher if I just stuck to the College game and not put the NFL or the NBA in the SBR best bet mix. So if your ready, let's Make some cash or Break something in this upcoming 2009 new year.

Please forgive my deductive powers of logic... as I didn't go to the 'Obama is the greatest president who has ever lived' school of logic even though he hasn't been president for one day yet.... but how do you realistically expect people to believe your going to hit >60% for the season when you yourself present us with your result of 100-wager sample.... where you barely crack 54%?????

It's like saying, hey, I'm selling you this great car with four wheels... and to prove it, look at the first 100 cars that came out of my factory with three wheels. Huh?


In one sentence you say.... Hopefully I can help other players.... IF ANY...... then, in the very next sentence you state how confident you are you'll hit 60%. .... then, to top it all off, you produce your results for a 100-wager sample whereby you didn't even hit 55%.

Alright let's get this party started. We got a good 10 weeks before Conference Tourney's starts in March 13, 2009, so this is going to be a long ride with up's and down's during the way. So here's my first pick, take or leave it for what it's worth.

My play of the day today is Rider -5 vs Drexel 3:00 PM ET

The pick is simple here, Rider's 4-1 at home while Drexel is 0-4 on the road. Winning on the road in college is always tough no matter how inferior the opposition is. Rider on the other hand has a reasonable record at 6-4, while being a traditionally strong home team based on last year record. Plus, the line in only -5 and just needs two possession to cover.

Missouri State +1.5 vs Illinois state

Illinois st is currently 11-0 going against Missouri State who's a solid 5-2 at home so far. Illinois State last road game was against a (3-8) Central Michigan which went down to wire in a 72-69 win. It's appears that trying to maintain an undefeated record is starting to mount on this team. I think Missouri State will be more motivated because of the 3 consecutive loss handed to them by Illinois st in 2008. With the home crowd backing them and that added motivation, Missouri state should pull the win here.

I'm on Wichita as well. I just can't see Creighton beating a solid team by double digits. They're a very good team but they shouldnt be able to blow right through teams like Wichita. They have been red hot though. Wichita +12.5 for me

Only reason I like this play, Northrigde is 0-7 on the road vs an 4-0 conference rival.

Illinois +8.5 at Purdue

Haven't been able to get anything right, but I'm going to keep firing away. I think Illinois will win this game because they have a more dominant inside game with 7'1 Mike Tisdale and 6'9 Mike Davis, both shooting 50% and making high percentage shots around the paint. Plus their Point Guard Demtri McCamey has been playing outstanding as of late.

UNLV +13.5 at Louiville

I would like this line more if I knew for certain UNLV point Wink Adams was starting, since he's the team leading scorer. Regardless, UNLV has a strong core. Back to Back NCAA tourney in 07-08 so the are battle tested, they should be able to compete better against Louiville than UAB.

New Year 2009 Thursday Play of the Day

Denver +3 at New Orleans

Despite Denver's horrible 0-7 road record, I think this team can pull out this win. They're on current 5 game winning streak, and are itching to beat this New Orleans team that has owned them since 2004. This is a game of streaks and I think Denver's red hot 5 game winning streak, ends New Orleans 8 consecutive winning streak against Denver at home.

Dayton at Toledo over 117.5

I think this line is very venerable and off, either way it's a good bet. If Toledo does their part this should go over, because you already know Dayton can score.

I have not idea why Northern Arizona is favored by this many point. They have not beat a single recognizable team at home, while Eastern Washington has been playing well opponents with comparable talent. Eastern Washington is the best play here.

The Fighting Irish can score in bunches against anyone I think they get at least 85, while ST Johns gets 65 to make this baby go over.

UNT is struggling and on a current 3 game skid. While the Razor Back just came off an impressive 96-88 win at home against Oklahoma. The Razor backs has been dominant at home so far, and look for them to do the same against an average UNT team that started hot early in the season but now is struggling.

Two familiar conference rivals meeting of the first time this year. Illinois state has been traditionally good at home against Creighton through the year. Winning on the road is always hard in college, and I think the 13-0 Illinois State Redhawks will take care of business in this one.

Bradley Braves +2 vs Illinois State Redhawks

I think Illinois States 14-0 Record ends here. Illinois State hasn't won in Bradley since 2004. Their last two road wins were by a 3 point margin against 7-7 Missouri state and 3-9 Central Michigan, both games required late comebacks on their part to pull out the win. Bradley is a much better team than the previous two they visited, and should pull out the upset against this untested 14-0 team on the road.

I like Louisville here because they are strong defensively and has been good on the road as heavy favorite's through the years. Even though South Florida made that Syracuse game look competitive toward the end in a 54-59 lost, I don't think the same will happen here. Syracuse was up by 15 at the half an kinda coasted through the rest of that game. Rick Pitino will never allow his team to relax with a big lead, and they will continue to hammer South Florida if such lead is attained at the half.
