1) Only game they have in 4 days (2 days off before tonight, and they have day off tomorrow)
2) they've been hearing it from their local media how poor they have been on the road. Players said yesterday they have talked about it internally and look forward to correcting it. No different than the spurs hearing it from their beat writers and local media, hounding the players all day long, how they haven't won on the road in 9 games - then spurs beat ORL in ORL .. and no different than the clippers hearing how poor they've been on the road before last night and won in denver.
3) won both games in salt lake city last year in the regular season. blew the jazz out in portland in game 1 of the preseason at the rose garden, only lost by 3 in the rematch when jazz were stoked and portland didn't give a shit.
So they are confident playing in that arena lately.
4) Former jaz player Wesley Matthews, since signing with the blazers has had excellent games against his former team and has been a thorn in their side. With Bell questionable for jazz he could go off.
5) portland is simply a better team, can match up with them upfront and have better guards.
6) since losing to the Mavs at home 5 games ago, the Jazz have responded very poorly by getting blown out in dallas for the rematch (without Dirk), and in their last 2 home games they did not cover (losing to the Craptors outright and only beat Sacramento by 3). Those losses to the Mavs seems to have gotten into their heads and psyche
6.5) Jazz front court players said they had "dead legs" for the Sac game and needed guys like CJ Miles and another guard to score over 40 pts combined to eek out a win over Sac at home.
7) the last time the blazers were very motivated before a road game, going by player reports before the game like this one, they destroyed OKC on the road and dominated the 2nd half with amazing energy playing "Rose Garden style" basketball -- getting to every loose ball first, going to the paint/rim relentlessly (unlike their usual road game mentality where they settle for jumpshots 85% of the time), and crashing the boards like a bunch of tazmanian devils for rebounds sending an extra man (as they do so often at home)
7.5) Portland, going by reports from players and coach, are very motivated for this game and want to end the "you can't play well on the road" talk
8) Portland had a "great practice" yesterday coming from multiple players on their team and head coach. This, when practice time is limited in a condensed season.. Moreover, they got into Utah a day early and the practice was in utah (can only help them with the elevation when they have had a "great" practice under their belt there)
JCrossover: Just had a great practice in utah!
About 12 hours ago by Jamal Crawford Portland Trail Blazers - Guard
Portland, which won both visits to Utah last season, is eager to improve on its 3-7 road record.
"I don't know why we play like we do (Friday) and then we go on the road and the effort doesn't seem to be there at times," said center Marcus Camby, who grabbed 20 rebounds and did not score against the Suns. "That's something we talked about internally, that's something we look forward to correcting."

Good points PR9,I also think the line is a little weird,"great" home team like Utah against poor road team like Portland and thay fav only by 1.5 points?!,after they were so poor in the road lately, this is great chance for them to win, like lakers last night..

The line moved because Jefferson showed up to the arena in a walking boot and is doubtful. Raja Bell has also been ruled out.

I like this play. Portland should be loose after the blowout and days off. A rested and properly motivated Portland team should take this. Utah is way overmatched on the wings here.

Love this play also.
Took Portland at EV before it moved to Portland ML -110.
Jazz have been playing great ball but I think Portland is the better team.
They are well-rested and looking to make a statement tonight.

if Jefferson is out, the only worry here is what BW said about a star player called out the day of the game for the home team:
Two lessons for Tonight
NBA home dogs without their best player or half the team injured cover 90% of the time
Cults have no shortage of Cash
ever since I heard the news of Jefferson, that shit has been screaming in my head.. though the Jazz were not dogs at the time of the news (but did become underdogs when the news broke)
^^ I pay close attention to any insight BW mentions.

lol. Poor riffraff still with his silly "riff raff" & butthurt up the ying yang after I started a similar thread for a call against his shitty LA Fakers team:
not to mention, I stated MANY times on this forum since the beginning, how the Heat are not a team to bet on for the regular season. In fact, I vehemently stated numerous times how the coach, the president of the team, and their players, have given all the vibes necessary for this by their statements (again, the reg season is one big experimental phase for the team from lineups/rotations to sets and playcalls). The playoffs is what they're about, they place very little to no emphasis in game planning for reg season games. With that said, I have bet against miami numerous times this season, and betting "for" them I am 5-2. With this team you have to know how to pick your spots in the reg season, or stay away.
but yeah, going big 1st H yesterday was easy for a Sun aft game, they were up 5 and the spread was -2. As i said before the game before anything else, the 1st half was the play ;-)

I'm liking POR as well. Was a bit surprised to see they opened as +2 underdogs. Utah has been tough at home, and they do have a knack for playing good teams well at home.
I think there are better plays on today's card, but this one is definitely worth a look.

Went big on Blazers and I'm very strict with bet amounts..i.e. rarely changing bet size.
Got it at +1.5 though

When Favors replaced jefferson earlier in the year Favors had 20 and 11.. and the Jazz beat the Sixers without jefferson.
I'd feel a lot better about this game if jefferson was playing. these home teams seem to have an extra gear when a very key player is out in their first home game without them. The entire team steps up and they play outta their minds. It catches up to them eventually to be sure, but in the 1st home game without them it seems they win 80% of the time. This is what's fukked up. I wish jefferson was playing to make me feel a lot better about my bet

I couldnt agree more. I hate this game now that Jefferson isnt playing. BUT, there is one tad bit of thought that he has been hurt for awhile now so maybe that "intensity" gear that would normally spark a team w/o their star has already used itself up.

also, the starting lineup for portland only played for about 30 mins last game against the blowout vs the suns(by 38 pts); leaving the bench to finish it up. just another factoid to add to your list of reasons PR9
