NCAAB: Michigan State @ Minnesota

Michigan State haven't been a strong outfit on the road this season by any means as they currently hold a 4-9 SU & ATS record.
Minnesota however, have been pretty solid at home going 11-1 SU before recently dropping two consecutive home games Vs Ohio State & Illinois.

This sets Minnesota in a nice spot tonight as they will be determined to prevent dropping their third straight game on home court and considering they are 36-18 ATS in home games after losing two of their previous 3 games since 1997, I fancy them to get the job done tonight and cover the spread.

Michigan State are just 5-12 ATS this season when checking in off a game where they were listed as a favourite and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games Vs a team with a win percentage of .600 or better on the season.

There is a nice trend which also supports this play; Bet on home favourites of 2.5 to 9.5 points (Minnesota) after having lost 4 of their last 5 games, a good team (with a win record of 60-80% on the season) facing a team with a winning record as it's 50-18 ATS over the last 5 seasons.

Hey guys. I apologise for my lack of activity on here lately. I have been really busy the last few weeks and have rarely posted any selections (and when I have, I havent had time to post analysis with my selections which I also apologise for).

However, I'm back starting from tonight and will be posting my selections more regularly now for the remainder of the season.

I have two NBA picks and 1 NCAAB pick for tonight and I will post them shortly with analysis.

Boston Celtics @ Philadelphia 76ers GAME TOTAL UNDER 192 (2 Units) Winner

Both of these teams have been involved in some high scoring contests lately with Boston's last 5 games averaging 204 total points and Philly's last 5 averaging 214. However, both teams have been facing up-tempo opposition during this period and for that reason I believe bookmakers have slightly over-adjusted the line providing some value with the under in tonight's matchup.

The 76ers are a strong defensive team on their home court allowing just 95ppg this season and Boston have several players still missing from their current roster with Glen Davis, Shaq, Delonte West, Von Wafer and Jermaine O'Neal all unavailable for tonight's game due to injuries. Therefore, the 76ers should be able to maintain their defensive intensity tonight and prevent Boston from scoring big. The Celtics possess one of the toughest defensive outfits in the NBA, and although slightly weakened due to current injuries, Boston will be focussed on bringing their 'A game' defensively tonight after the dissapointing loss at home to the Clippers where they gave up 108 points on their home court.

Boston will not overlook a Philly team that has been playing great ball lately and will need to be 100% focussed if they are to pick up the road win tonight. Boston's defense is ranked #2 overall in the NBA as they have allowed just 90ppg in road contests this season.

There are also some trends which support the 'UNDER' for tonight's matchup;

Boston have played 'UNDER' in 29 of their last 40 games in road games vs poor foul drawing teams (Philly) attempting 24 or fewer free-throws per game over the last 3 seasons. We are only seeing an average of 185.5 total points scored in this situation.

The 'UNDER' is 4-1 in Boston's last 5 vs Eastern Conference opponents and 4-1 'UNDER' in their last 5 vs a team with a winning SU record. The 'UNDER' is also 6-2 in the Celtics last 8 games after scoring 100+ points in their previous game.

The 'UNDER' is 7-1 in the 76ers last 8 games as a home underdog of 0.5-4.5 points and 5-1 'UNDER' in their last 6 games as a home underdog.

The last meeting between these two teams only resulted in 164 total points and although tonight's game is highly likely to supass the number achieved in the previous matchup, I can't see tonight's total reaching 190 points.

Connecticut Huskies @ Syracuse Orange -3.5 (2 Units) OT Loss

Syracuse won the regular season meeting @ UConn by 8 points as they limited the Huskies to just 36.2% shooting from the field. The Orange's patented matchup zone proved especially effective in slowing down Kemba Walker who managed just 8 points on 3-for-14 shooting. They Syracuse zone should continue to be effective in tonight's game against a fatigued UConn team playing its 4th game in as many days.

This is also a letdown spot for UConn after such an emotionally and physically draining performance in the win over top seed Pittsburgh.

The Syracuse forwards Jackson and Joseph have combined for an average 27.2ppg and 15.5rpg. The back-court of Triche and Jardine are running the floor very well lately and should contribute the 24.2ppg they have been averaging.

Additionally, Syracuse are 4-0 ATS their last 4 vs Big East opponents, 4-0 ATS vs teams with a win percentage above .600 and 4-0 ATS their last 4 games overall.

The Orangemen are gaining momentum with each game and are rolling lately having won 6 consecutive games (5-1 ATS) and I expect them to continue the streak tonight by winning SU and covering the spread against a tired UConn outfit.

Portland Trailblazers -4 @ Charlotte Bobcats *bought half-point* (2 Units) Loser

Portland are playing some great ball lately winning 4 consecutive games including impressive wins over Orlando and Miami during this spell. Charlotte are struggling lately as they have lost 6 straight games and have only managed to cover the spread on one of those occasions.

Their is no doubting the fact that Portland possess the stronger starting line-up and bench in this matchup. The Blazers have the momentum coming into tonight's game and have more to play for as they are currently seeded #6 in the playoffs with Memphis and New Orleans following closely behind. Portland can't afford to slip up here and should be 100% focussed on bostering their position in the league starting with a victory on the road tonight.

The Bobcats on the other hand, currently own a 26-38 SU record on the season. They are out of contention for the playoffs and are entering tonight's game with no momentum. With nothing to play for, it cannot be guaranteed that Charlotte will bring 100% effort tonight. Although they will be motivated to stop the slump, it is hard to see a win coming for the Bobcats right now, especially against an 'in-form' Portland squad.

The Blazers have the edge in previous matchups between these two teams. Portland pulled away in the 2nd half of their game with Charlotte just 6 days ago as they stormed to a comfortable 24 point victory.

The Blazers have won 4 consecutive games SU & ATS vs Charlotte winning by double digits on three occasions and picking up a 6 point road victory on the other. In those 4 meetings, Portland held Charlotte to a mere 74, 74, 79 and 69 points and with the current injuries to the Bobcats roster and after the trade of Wallace, it's hard to see how Charlotte will turn the tide tonight and manage to cover the spread let alone win the game SU.

I think the value is with the 'hot' Portland team laying a relatively small number, and although they are on the road, it shouldn't prove too much of a factor as the Blazers win this one comfortably by 7+ IMO.

Vancouver Canucks ML (-120) @ Calgary Flames (1.5 Units)

Hmmm.. Getting the #1 team in the NHL as a small starting price favourite (at home or on the road) smells kinda fishy doesn't it?..

At first glance that may appear to be the case but the bookmakers are inflating the value on the Flames due to their impressive recent home record as they have won 10 of their last 14 games SU at the Saddledome. Calgary is a scrappy team that are guaranteed to play hard for 60 minutes tonight and Kiprusoff has also been solid recently for the Flames posting an 8-1-1 SU record with 3 shutouts in his last 11 starts. Some impressive stats from the Flames lately but by no means daunting.

Vancouver will be looking to complete a perfect 5-game road trip with a 5th successive win tonight. The Canucks have excelled away from home posting a 17-4-2 SU mark in their last 23 road contests and will certainly not be intimidated by the Flames recent success. Roberto Luongo (31-13-7 SU & 2.22GA average) will be back in net for Vancouver after sitting out of Thursday nights game against the San Jose Sharks.

Vancouver are 3-1 SU against Northwest Division rivals. The Canucks are 4-0 SU in their last 4 road games, 5-0 SU in their last 5 vs a team with an overall winning record and 4-1 SU in their last 5 games as a road favourite of -110 to -150. Additionally, the Canucks are 5-1 SU in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and the Flames are 2-6 SU in their last 8 games as a home underdog.

Verdict: Vancouver will show why they are currently the #1 team in the NHL and complete a perfect 5-game road trip with another victory tonight. Take the Canucks as the small moneyline favourite.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Golden State Warriors -6.5 (2 Units) WINNER!

Golden State will be looking to make one last push toward the playoffs as the regular season approaches an end. After picking up a huge OT win over Orlando last time out, the Warriors will be focussed on revenging the 123-126 road loss vs tonight's opponents Minnesota back on Feb 27th.

The Timberwolves are just 5-27 SU on the road this season, getting outscored by 9.2ppg in the process and the Warriors are 20-13 SU at home this year.

Golden State are 8-0 ATS in home games this season after scoring 110 points or more in their previous game. The Warriors are 33-14 ATS vs up-tempo teams averaging 83 or more shots per game over the last two seasons. They are also 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games vs a team with an overall win percentage below .400

Finally, Golden State are 5-1 SU & ATS in their last 6 meetings with Minnesota.
