No, it definitely was not the way to play it. Especially in a four game chase. A (D) bet loss would be worse than that Miami loss could have been. Not enough victories were picked up to offset the losses with the 3 point juice. This was one of the 5 tests I did for each season. I am going to retset buying three on high favorites, to try to avoid the Miami scenario. But I do remember that many more losses occured when playing P/L on favorites, I will recheck to see how three less points would have done. I will get to that after my baseball backtests are complete.

3 game loss @ -110 = -8.26 units
3 game loss @ -170 (3 pts) = -18.68 units

2010-11 losses buying three points = -93.4 units : 5 loses @ 18.68 units.
2010-11 losses playing (-110) = -59.8 units : 7 losses @ 8.26 units, and -2 units for two less wins.

This has been backtested by a few people and deemed to be unsuccessful over the long haul. But this season it is much further ahead, and until the loss money catches up with the buy three point loss money, I see no reason to stop. For if I get to that point, I will be even with if I had bought three all year, nothing to lose. This is for JM, not Chase 110. There is no point buying in Chase 110. Backtested results are based on a four game chase. A four game chase @ -170 would cost 52.13 units. Since every season has had losses, two losses for a year would be a losing season. Just go with the systems the way they are and you will be fine: buy 3 in JM, don't buy 3 in Chase 110.

Keep up the good work wallco. Any update on the MLB backtesting progress?

Just finished writing a program that will do some testing for me. I just have to input yearly data. Baseball is a tricky sport to backtest, since most bets are made on M/L, and constant conversions from favorite lines to dog lines are necessary. The wins and losses portion is easy, but to find the actual money results requires painstaking work. So I wrote a program to do the money calculations and the (A) (B) (C) data. I am testing six different options for two systems, hopefully the computer will tell me which version is best. Then I will apply that version to ten more seasons to check for consistency. I like the way it is going, but i absolutely will not throw anything up on these forums unless I am convinced it works, and willing to put my own $ on it.

One thing I've notice about JM's 3 pts system is that it is too much. 2 pts are good enough for the play. When the 2-pt play doesn't cover, 3-pt play doesn't cover as well. My bet is Orlando will cover the 4.5 tonite against the warriors. GS has been shooting well lately. Their past couple games went under. Thanks for posting JM's systems and your chase 110. These are profitable system if ones would stay with it. Good money management is the key, but other temptations are almost irresistible.
