Shaq couldn't go back to Miami because he burned bridges there, as well as, LA and Orlando. You gotta remember that once he left each of those teams, he had bad mouthed either the players, coaches, and/or the organization. There was no way they would ever take him back even at this low price.

The Celtics now probably have 3 of the top 5 Dwight Howard defenders in the league with Shaq, JO, and Perkins.

I don't think Shaq will be too much of a factor. JO and Perkins are both better defensively in the Celtics scheme (if they keep the same one they had under Thibideou), and Shaq's not too effective offensively any more. Another off-season for him to be lazy at 38 years of age won't help either.

Shaq looked done when he left LA too and everyone was saying the game passed Riley by for going after him. Then Shaq showed up slim and trim and played years younger. I remember Riley signed Tim Hardaway but his deal was contingent on him staying below 205 lbs. I wonder if that happened with Shaq.

Anyway, I'd take Shaq at 42 if he was in shape. Take a guy who can play 40 lbs overweight and take that 40 off and you got yourself a player IMO.

This is a great pick-up for the C' considering Perkins is out, Sheed is a question mark, and Jermaine O'Neal is injury prone. Ideally he won't play much, but having an extra Big is a big deal.
