Game 7 is going to be a battle. Boston should play better. I think they should play best of 3 so we can extend season a bit.

#33954Let's just say that folks at ABC were able to take the 'if necessary' part of promoting a Game 7 in this year's NBA Finals sometime soon after the tip in Game 6.
The Los Angeles Lakers' rollicking 89-67 win against the 6 ½-point underdog Boston Celtics on Tuesday night was every bit the blowout the home folks were hoping for after getting beaten the last two games back in 'Beantown' but the $64,000 question now heading into the ultimate Game 7 is this:
Will the resounding win -- one that no doubt humbled and embarrassed a proud Celtics bunch -- actually come back to haunt the Lakers who (dare we say) kicked Boston's hoopsters when they were down?
Keep in mind that the Lakers led by 22 points in the second quarter and by as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter when the message had long since been sent. Okay, so we know what you're thinking that Boston's gonna be ultra-psyched for this ultimate game anyway but now that the veteran-flavored Celtics are gonna be digesting that blow-a-way loss for almost a full 48 hours and all we're saying is maybe the Lakers should have 'cooled it' when they had the opportunity to do so.
Just call it a little added spice for this next game at the Staples Center and -- for goodness sakes -- let's hope every celebrity in town is able to get front-row seats!Comment -

#33955THE NBA FINALS -- Series tied 3-3Game #6: LOS ANGELES LAKERS 89, BOSTON 67 -- No real need to psycho-analyze this one to death (we let the folks at ESPN and NBA-TV do that following this easy Lakers win) but it is worth mentioning that the winning side once again won the rebounding battle here (LA out-boarded Boston 52-39 and it seemed even more lopsided than that!) and LA moved the ball better, won all the so-called '50-50' plays and had the legs here and you do have to wonder if Boston kept thinking that it had a 'cushion' for Game 6 although it's tough to believe a pro team would think that way at this stage of the post-season.6-3 LAKERS - 6 CelticsLAKERS 102-896-6LAKERS - 5.5 CelticsCeltics 103-946-8CELTICS - 3 LakersLakers 91-846-10CELTICS - 4 Lakers CELTICS 96-896-13CELTICS - 2 LakersCELTICS 92-866-15 LAKERS - 6.5 Celtics LAKERS 89-67
Yes, the Lakers' Kobe Bryant (26 points and 11 rebounds) really helped to dictate the pace and style of this game while Boston point guard Rajon Rondo did his very best to sabotage his own side with a 5-of-15 shooting performance and next-to-no enthusiasm but it all made perfect sense that Los Angeles played a more 'team concept' game after Bryant was a one-man show in Game 5 (with no help at all).
Much was made of Game 5 'goat' Ron Artest sinking three triples en route to his 15-point, 6-rebound game -- we say it was about time! -- and sure F/C Pau Gasol was brilliant as a distributor in the Lakers' famed triangle offense as he finished with a game-high 9 assists to go along with 17 points and 13 boards but the flip side here said the Celtics really caved in emotionally following the hyper- extended knee injury to blue-collar center Kendrick Perkins -- and don't look for him in Game 7 -- and Boston basically bagged this sucker once LA shot into a double-digit first-half lead.
Here's a game-by-game look at this year's NBA Finals (note all home teams are in CAPS):
Pointspread Update: NBA Finals Betting Favorites now have covered four of the first six games and the up-to-the-minute bottom line here is that NBA Playoff Betting Favorites enter Game 7 at 48-32-1 ATS (against the spread) overall for a nifty .600 winning rate.
The Celtics are 15-8 versus the vig this post-season (a .652 winning rate) while the Lakers now are 12-10 ATS overall in this year's playoffs (a .545 winning percentage).
NBA FINAL GAME 7 PREVIEW --
BOSTON at LOS ANGELES LAKERS -- Thursday at 9 p.m. ET (ABC-TV)
First off, this Game 7 clash could be more about foul calls than anything else:
If you assume that the aforementioned Perkins and LA's hobbling center Kevin Bynum (just 16 minutes in Game 6) either are not gonna play here or will have limited minutes, than you begin to realize that neither side can afford to get tagged with lots of fouls or else the likes of Shelden Williams (Boston) and Josh Powell (LA) will wind up having a lot to say about who wins the 2010 NBA title.
Gut feeling is the officials will 'let 'em play' more than usual and that could be a real advantage for the Celtics who like to bump-and-grind plenty on defense and note that particular style has unnerved Gasol and, yes, even Artest in this series and so a 'slow whistle' will help Doc Rivers' squad.
Meanwhile, let's zoom in on some other key stats: The Lakers blocked 8 shots in Game 6 (including three by Gasol) and this must be a major part of LA's game plan here as Phil Jackson's team needs to defend better than usual in the paint 'cause it's not likely that Kobe and Co. are gonna shut down all the Celtics' perimeter shooters here -- note that Boston's Ray Allen did nail a couple of trifectas on Tuesday night and has shown one-and-all that he can heat up inside Staples Center at a moment's notice.
Another key stat here will be the assists column: You expect the Celtics to do better than the 17 'dimes' they had in Game 6 but -- especially in this series -- you really draw a sense of how Bryant is playing if the Lakers are at-or-above the same figure. Remember how Jackson was disappointed and/or angry that his club only had 12 assists in the Game 5 loss in Boston?
If the Lakers turn the ball over at times on fast breaks or when Artest is getting a little 'nutsy', that's one thing but LA cannot afford a low assists total here -- they need that crisp ball movement to keep Boston defenders on its collective heels and to energize an offense that has shown major signs of stagnation in this series.
Now, here's a prediction of sorts: The Lakers may not have to absolutely slam shut Boston's offense -- note that the 67 points was the second-lowest in NBA Finals history and the lowest single-game total for a Celtics team in the Finals -- but it says here that for the Lakers to cop their 16th NBA crown they must keep the Celts at or below 90 points: In the three LA wins this series the C's have scored 89, 84 and 67 points.
In the three Boston wins, the Eastern Conference champs have scored 103, 96 and 92 points ... 'nuff said!Comment -

#33973I love everyone thinking they've got Game 7 figured out... There is no figuring it out. This series more than any I can ever remember has removed all doubt that momentum is meaningless.

#33975), but this finals series and a couple others have made up for it nicely. A tight game going into the 4Q would cap off an amazing Final, however if you're a Celtics backer, if Boston isn't leading by 5+ going into the 4Q, you're fvcked.

#33977Excerpt from blog by Kelly Dwyer
Listing her thoughts on the 2 sleepless nights prior to Game 7 for all the players and what is likely on their minds. These two are my favourites.
Ron Artest: You don't worry about anything. Have another bowl of Crazy-o's, watch some SVU, and get a good night's sleep inside your racing car bunk bed. Top bunk. The lower bunk is for your thoughts.
Paul Pierce: Ron Artest is crazy. You're one step-back jumper from seeing him steal your shoe and never being heard from again.Comment -

#33984Gameday is here!!! Can't frickin' wait!
Celtics +7 (1,293X)
Nah, no dough on hand to put on it, but I maintain these predictions:
1) Will be the best game of the series -- goes down to the final seconds. (Therefore Celtics +7 = winner).
2) Pierce will be unstoppable.
3) Kobe will be unstoppable.
4) The over will finally come out! The replacement of Perk with Baby and 'Sheed will result in less defense and more offense for the C's. Also, the C's may need to push the tempo in this one to compete w/out Perk in there.
Best of luck, Everyone!!The season reaches its conclusion in grand fashion tonight!
