Sorry guys i just wrote a preview for the game and lost it , basically its Cowboys all the way at the ML, more confidence today after chatting to a few Cowboys at their hotel this morning. They ae on a mission and are desperate to show they can win away from home, so far they are 1-1 away from home and are very keen to make it 2-2 .

It is always great to collect from the books, or betfair. I am lucky that a good friend has a cafe right next door to the Crone Plaza hotel in Canberra and all visiting football teams , Nrl, Afl Super 15 etc stay there as well s the kickboxers and most of them wil come past for a coffee before a game, it doesnt take much to have a chat with the guys and once they realize your on their side they enjoy a chat about anything. The Cowboys were emphatic that this game would lay the platform for some consistency and wipe out the dreaded away record they have accrued over the last 4 or so years, without being precise it is somewhere around 5 from 30 not including this year.
I liked the Cowboys for the flag before this match and they confirmed to me they will be playing footy in the penultimate weekend of the season vying for a GF spot. Thurston is pure class, his defence tonight was outstanding , but Bowen is the lynch pin, he can switch sides in attack and is a Darius Boyd/Billy SLater/ Brett Stewart mixture. Tate is a class act in both defence and attack and tonight without the No 1 prop in the game last year Matt Scott the other forwards showed the way against a big Canberra pack with the Simms Brothers and James Tamou leading the way.
The Raiders were lackluster in attack and Campese must have rad the papers last week who were anointing him as a SOO player this year, the only people who will be happy if Campo makes SOO will be Queenslanders. Carnye wil lbe the 5/8 for NSw barring injury and Pearce will play 5/8, Brett Morris will be in there as winger or Fullback if Hayne does not strike form and Jennings will be in the centres. Lots of time to talk about Qld though.Comment -

NSW may go with the imcumbent if they are trying to build from last year.
Regardless who they pick...QLD is too classy and have so much depth that I don't see nsw winning for at least the next 3 years.

Ben Barba is making a name for himself and with some luck he will make the QLD team, I did mean Pearce for Halfback. I have been backing QLD since 1989, they have always been the underdogs because the Bookies and media build up NSW and the poor punting public who bet a few times a year jump on and do their money.
I already am thinking of taking the 1.90 for Qld in SOO 1 in Melb , Qld just get better and better, a dilemma when YO Yeh gets injured, Barba, Graham, Tate or even Bowen for the spot it is amazing, iI personally want it to go to 10 years if they can manage that then it will never be beaten, the core of the team is around 25 26 so they have atleast 3 or 4 years in them. I think we may have to start a thread for the SOO in a few weeks.Comment -

Sitting in the Members area with my son , he was wearing a Cowboys cap i biught when we walked in , as is a tradition to wear the cap of the team the money is on, My son became very boisterous ( he is 11) in his support for Nth Qld so loud that when they scored his was the only voice in the close proximity of 50 meters. 1 try, 2 tries and he was loud and very cocky now , ten minutes before half time i enticed him with a promise of refreshment and we moved to the area behind the try line the Cowboys would be attacking in the second half as i assured him we would see more tries there.
Luckily it was sparsely populated behind the try line and we did manage to see a couple of tries close up, we would of left early but i had another wager for the Cowboys to win 13 plus and they did salute as well. Campese versus Thurston is not a contest, i also believe that the Raiders best 5/8 is young Wighton, he is a superb athlete and a fantastic defender and competitor, the best thing that can happen to the raiders is Campo get injured. Furner will be under pressure and the injuries wont help, he is safe until after State of Origin because Stuart wont be free until thenComment -

A horrible start on Friday night losing both games, but some good wins over the weekend and tonight on some good valued dogs, I was happy to miss Sundays games as both were very hard to assess and the results showed that. Form is now exposed on most teams and the cream will rise to the top, I have some ideas on who belongs where but will assess all the injuries over the next few days and see what lays ahead. Looks like the Books don't know whats going on this week. That is the most even set of odds i have ever seen in a round of NRL, Highest price of 2.65 and lowest of 1.48 on a team that has lost 3 in a row. Could be some value in the Rabbits at 2.25 if they can overcome the loss of Burgess, they have the pack to match the Dogs , Tigers will have Farah back and possibly Galloway which will make up some for the loss of Ellis, whist the Bronc need a loss to keep them grounded, I will oppose the Roosters most weeks especially when they are favs and with Idris and Mead back the Titans could be a bet, The Loss of Bird is huge though. Sharks Dragons is a coin toss . Knights Eels interesting match, but i will be having some of the 2.25 on the Cowboys again this week, if Slater is out they will come right in but even with him there i think the Cowboys will perform at home. Manly are struggling and 1.48 is a very short price but again they are not playing a strong team. Lots to digest , will see how training goes tonight and look at the line ups again tomorrow. Warriors were crunched into 1.80 quickly, they will want to get back on track and sadly the Raiders injury woes are getting worse , the uncertainty of injuries always crushes a teams chances for a good season , at this stage the Raiders are in deep trouble, they have had this happen a few times in the last few seasons, a slow start, a lot of injuries and the season is nearly gone, they usually fight back in the second half of the season. I have spoken to many people and there is a lot of conjecture about recovery techniques and also how to prevent injuries etc, Hasler has the latest innovative technology in regards to muscle recovery etc.Comment -
I was hoping for a line of around 6 for the Nth Qld match...I was ready to pound it. Nth Qld match up well with Melb and have troubled them in the past.
I don't mind the Dragons this week...coming of a loss last week they should be ready and pumped to stop the Sharks 3/3 run.
The warriors is enticing, but who the F knows what team will show up? The coach cant seem to get them motivated like Cleary did.
Tigers are a very attractive price...they will need to WIN soon and with some key players returning this could be the time. Bris have been flying and complacency may kick in. They'll need to lose a game soon. No team keeps on winning.
That's my initial thoughts. Those 4 games stick out to me atm.

I expect Manly to have a breakout game at home, they have one of the strongest home ground advantages in the comp at Brookvale, and have way more talent than Penrith even with the players they have out. I'll be most likely taking them on both the ML and the spread.
Roosters should not be favourites to anyone in an away game, so agree this game is Titans or nothing.
Tigers will be desperate - being at Allianz negates some of their home advantage, but getting 4 points with them in this spot is very tempting. Taking them on the ML and then hedging out on Brisbane as soon as they fall behind during the game should be profitable.
re Cronulla, I've watched every game of theirs this season, and their defense becomes really flakey in last 20-30 minutes of the game, and they really do lack creativity in their attack, in the opposition 20 there's a lot of "let's just one out to a Gallen or Ross and hope they can barge over the line". Still very impressed with Bukuya though, I think he's one of the form second rows in the comp.Comment
