#11253E z. And the ret of you. What did you think of the d q. Did he impede yes. I've seen way worse ... did it effect the race. No. . The only issue I have. It took 20 minutes. .... that's saying they weren't sure ..... good question is. ..if that was baffert horse. Would they take it down... I say there are 20 horses .. as soon as they came out of the gate they were banging...... yea a foul. Was it intentionally. No. New York he stays .........well. they just set the mark. Of what stays or what comes down. For years to come.Comment -

was the right call but understand the other side of it.. I think maybe they ought to consider adopting international rules in regards to this stuff when it comes to graded stakes races..meaning only take down the winner if the horse he impeded had a "clear" shot at winning.. that can be a slippery slope also as we can see with calls being challenged or reviewed in the major sports.. tell you what I'm ready to move on from this lol.. just hoping for a big field and fast track for the preakness.. with the top two not participating should be an excellent betting raceComment -

"Many sets of racing rules will say something like those in Kentucky, which declare that a horse may not “swerve in so as to interfere with…or impede any other horse.” If you go by the book, Maximum Security committed a punishable foul. But as every racing fan knows, no racing jurisdiction goes by the book, because the result would be total chaos in the sport.
Horses bump and jostle and jockey for position in almost every race — particularly at the starting gate and in the early running on the backstretch. Stewards overlook almost all of it. Most of the time their tacit standard is that a horse will be disqualified if his foul clearly cost a rival the chance to win or get a high placing.
NBC’s slow-motion coverage clearly showed Maximum Security moving in front of War of Will, forcing jockey Tyler Gaffalione to steady his mount. This was a foul — no doubt about it. The incident could have resulted in a bad accident — but it didn’t. It probably cost War of Will a length, but he recovered quickly. He had a clear path ahead of him and a quarter of a mile in which to catch Maximum Security, and he drew within a length of the leader, but he faded badly at the end and finished eighth. He was never going to win the Derby, or even finish in the money. Nor were the two longshots who were behind War of Will on the turn and were also hampered by the incident.
So I don’t see how justice was served in any way by disqualifying the best horse. And it certainly was not served by elevating Country House, who had a relatively easy trip, and had every chance to catch Maximum Security in the stretch, but couldn’t do it.
--Andrew Beyer "
Many of us probably feel the same way as Mr Beyer. This DQ call has come down between being objective and subjective. It is really tough to swallow when no INQUIRY was post it. All my of years of racing in a major race track, how often does one see a jockey OBJECTION alone will disqualify some one. I cannot remember when was the last time I saw one especially in a big race. Like you said, what if that horse was Baffert's horse, say it was Justify in the Derby, will he have gotten disqualified? Chances are slimmer than none. I feel bad for the trainer, the rider and the owner. Max Security was clearly the best horse, none of his opponents will ever catch him. He is a young horse still learning and I just hope that he will continue to prove that he is the best horse in this year 3 year old crop. I honestly think that he had a chance of winning the triple crown because the rest of the 3 year olds are not very good. I hope that going forward, this "rule" will apply to everyone. I know you had him too so I share your pain. Anyways, I have done with my share of venting.Last edited by mrginandtonic; 05-08-19, 01:05 AM.Comment -

#11257Hart, here is a quote by DRF legend, Andrew Beyer:
