First look at PA Derby Day

Parx
Race 1
5-Determining 4-1 - Not sure if Sacco is going to bring him back in 6 days but if he does it's a positive sign.Gets a big switch to Paco Lopez who will get the most out of this horse and that should be enough to turn his 7 of 14 ITM finishes into his 1st win.
Race 2
Not sure you are going to see anything close to the 12-1 ML on the J Servis 1/1A entry 12-1 but I would take half that , maybe even 1/3 of that.Both horses have a legitimate chance to win but would prefer the 1A-Seventeenohsix 12-1 who is dropping out of a stake.Carmouche knows how to ride this track better than anyone.
Race 3
6-Given Star 10-1 - Very tough race to handicap.This filly looked like she wanted no part of a 5f sprint in her only start.Just got running when the race was over.Now stretches out to 1 mile 70 yards with long time great combo Frankie Pennington riding for C Lynch.An improvement is almost a guarantee , it's just a case of if it will be enough to win.The 7-Your Pace Or Mine 5-1 comes out of by far the toughest race in a MSW at Saratoga.Also making 2nd career start while adding lasix and that is often where the biggest improvement in a horses life comes.
Race 4
2-Wildcat Lily 5-1 - Another one where I'm not sure you see the ML even at 5-1.Castellano rides for Rudy 1st start in the barn off a 5 month layoff.One of Rudy's biggest strengths is acquiring a horse fixing it and bringing it back better than ever after some time off.6-Hallie Brooks 6-1 will also be in my exacta.
Race 5
1-Engine 5-2 - Chad Brown has made a mockery of the competition at Parx winning 12 of his 16 races for a success rate of 75%. Only 2 failed to hit the board.Maybe hook him up with several bombs or if the inside paths are really dead as often is at Parx you can take a shot against him.8-Grasshopin 12-1 , 11-Doublethestyle 10-1 , 10-Conte 20-1 , 9-Blame The Jockey 20-1 are all outside and have races that fit.
Race 6
Castellano is on a horse with a strong chance for the 3rd race in a row with 6-Dawly 4-1.An alternative might be 2-Gourmet Dinner 10-1 who was once a really promising dirt horse.Have to wait and see if 5-Sailor's Revenge 8-1 runs back for the 4th race in 19 days.Would be between him and 8-Arlo 5-1 for the 3rd spot in exacta.
Race 7
1-Cast A Doubt 15-1 - If Lisa is anything like her imfamous husband Juan Carlos and gets this horse back to his best 1st off claim then he has a big shot.Favorite Make Your Move comes in off a huge figure in a weak race where he had eveything his own way.Prefer 11-Sunset District 6-1 over him and 12-Special Congrats 12-1 is another interesting long shot.The more I look at this race the more I like the 12.
Race 8
5-Catch My Drift 7-2 - C Brown shows up again and I have no idea how this girl isn't the favorite.Probably will be when the race goes off but still have no clue how the ML maker thinks this horse goes off at 7-2 coming in off the G1 Alabama where she was only beaten 5 lengths with it being the only race she has lost.Key to 11-Mine Own 15-1 and 3-Where's Rosie B 8-1 in ex or ex bx.
Race 9
Pretty straightforward race with 6-Roadhog 3-1 , 5-Edge Of Reality 5-1 , and 4-Page McKenney 7-2.The value is 9-Dancing Lounge 12-1 who has just as good a chance.Little bit of a negative Carmouche jumps off 9 to ride 6 but Paco is probably an upgrade especially on turf.9 has races as good as anyone except maybe the 6s best race but pace figs indicate he hasn't been all out since 6 or 7 starts ago.
Race 10
Good Bye Greg is the wildcard having only run on synth and turf.Not sold he can run that fast on dirt.If you take him out it becomes a clear 2 horse race between 6-Fast Anna 8-5 and 5-Pure Sensation 4-1 .At the prices I guess the win bet has to be the 5.
Race 11
8-Untapable 7-5 - Any one of her 5 races this year likely wins this unless someone jumps up out of their skin which isn't impossible at Parx.Hard to think someone would be playing chemist with horses of this caliber though.Stopchargingmaria has ran better than it looks winning last two races but if you are going to try and play this race vertically you need prices.J Jones and new giant killer J Jerkens have them in 1-Cassatt 12-1 and 3-House Rules 20-1.House Rules makes 2nd start in J Jerkens barn and had no chance in lone try vs Untapable with troubled trip off the pace on speed track.Cassat goes 3rd off layoff.I would say 8-3-1 or if wanting a lottery ticket 9-3-1.
Race 12
This Pennsylvania Derby is one of the better fields this race has seen in a long time.Combine the last 3 races together and it may be the best Penn Derby Day ever in terms of quality.The obvious question is what to do with odds on 1-California Chrome 1-1.If Vic Espinoza decides to skim the rail saving all the ground it could have a huge impact on a dead rail.You have to use either 1 or 4-Bayern but can't use both , at least in an exacta.The price I'm interested in is 5-Noble Moon 15-1.Should be able to run all day which is why it's strange he ran in the King's Bishop unless it was just a prep for this.Closed strong there and now moves back to 2 turns.Will definitely need the top 2 to not bring their A game but that's not impossible and price is right.For some reason people love Candy Boy over and over.Yet has done nothing to deserve it.I would throw in 3-Protonico 8-1 instead for either a 1-5-3 or 4-5-3 exacta box.For pick 4 I would use all 4 while pressing Untapable and Fast Anna/Pure Sensation.Going as deep as possible in 1st and last leg with even horses I didn't mention hoping for a WTF??? horse to win.
