Thanks Pigpen and Jellymancan! Unfortunately we came up short on the winners side but did have some half decent paying exotic pricing though

Will keep trying to get the winners home as this is my most favourite track to handicap and hopefully in 2023 it can turn around for not just me but you guys watching as well! Happy New Year!

#4 Mr. Thunderstruck 15-1 is heading in the right direction from the last 3 races going 1-2-1; A few key trainer angles for Von Hemel today that helps this one chance are (stats are L3 years at Oaklawn) 31-60 days 25%/50% +8.20 UpInClass 33%/33% +4.00 and Turnback in Distance 25%/50% +4.00 plus in the previous meet jockey Gonzalez did well with the trainer hitting at an 18% clip and 45% Itm; If this one can find a comfortable trip off the pace I think this one is the upset and get the job done at a nice price!

#4 Make Noise (5/2) returned after a 5-month layoff to run against higher class horses but did not fair well in those 2 starts; Drops in class here now with getting Santana Jr aboard plus trainer Gibson is strong with 1stOffClm horses (50% +$3.00) and strong in 31-60 days (36% +$3.64); Hoping the value is there and Santana can steer this one in for a winning photo today!

R9 "The Pippin S": :1::7::2::3:
#1 Traverse (8-1) Another one to return after a 5-month layoff and managed to keep the winning streak alive to 2 with a 2-length victory at Churchill Downs; This is a big step up in class for this filly with also going a longer distance but has held good speed in the past plus a rail position can help her carry that speed across the distance here; Her sire Street Sense holds a 1* Stamina Index which means that he can demonstrate the ability to win at 1 1/4 mile or further so hoping that can help the chances even more!

Saturday 1/7:
Race 9 #3 Lovely Ride (3-1 ML)If this horse goes to the post under 2-1 I am not going to play her. I do think she has and excellent chance to win. Her last race (win in 150K Stake in December) came after an extended layoff where Diodoro was quoted as saying she may have soured on us last year and we needed to give her a break. That 4 month break resulted in a nice win, also her subsequent work on 12/31 looks visually very good and it was a bullet. Diodoro (trainer) is 36% at the current meet and Torres (Jock) is hitting at 24%.

Your selection in the 9th is interesting. If the #3 does not win I sure hope your #1 gets home. I noticed her three losses are on the synthetic surface. She is undefeated on the dirt and being by Street Sense she could be a runner. I noticed she is her Dam's first foal. Hope we come in 1-2 either on top!!!!!!

I used to love this track but now in a big slump it is kind of hard to like it

Sunday 1/8:

Race 8: #9 Whelen Springs (20-1 ML)

This guy may be a bit of a stretch but there are some things to like. First, he is going to be a price as he is 1)an Arky bred facing open company and 2)in his last 2 races he was beaten by 13 and 12 lengths. Now my reasons to consider him are he is getting back on lasix for this effort while he was not treated for with the medication in his last 2 poor efforts. Ortiz is putting blinkers on him for the first time. I like to see this and it may be a plus. He has a steady string of works here at OP going back to Nov. 23, and in his 7 starts here at OP he is 3-1-2 telling me he likes the track. He beat open company here in OP's premier sprint for 3 yo colts last spring in 1:09 3/5 so he can compete in this arena. I am playing a win ticket and putting him in second and third in my verticals. Good luck!!!!!

#5 African Warrior (3-1) is in sharp form right now with 2 wins from 5 starts and 3 2nd's from 5 starts; Has been off since September but it looks like trainer Prather Jr has been keeping this one fresh on the bench and 61-180 days stat for the trainer is very solid (5 starts 40% +8.84); Hoping this one can keep the good form alive with being up on the front end to win here today!

#8 Ginobili (7/5) has been racing in California for a while now but comes back to Oaklawn with the last start here being May of 2020; Stretches out to 2-turns and is 2nd off the layoff showing loads of speed to carry into today with a 100 BSF in his most previous start; Santana Jr mounts up for miller in hopes that the shipper can win going away

#3 Shopper's Revenge (2-1) Ran a game effort last out 1st time asking with closing all the way from the pack half of the pack to finish 2nd at around 13-1; Trainer Asmussen does well with maiden horses in their 2nd starts (21%) and also he adds Lasix for 'Revenge for the 1st time today which he has gotten 26% of his starters to win with that angle; Beyer last out is only 2nd to the #6 by 2 pts (71 to 69); Hoping for a bit more here now to break through and win today

#9 Argumental (4-1) narrowly defeated at this class level last time out at Churchill to finish 2nd by a nose; Cuts back 1/2 a furlong plus getting jockey Santana Jr is back on could help the chances of this one here; Figures have been improving and form is still staying sharp as can be; Already has a win at this distance so all the positives are lining up for today's race and hoping to see the 4-1 price stay like that for the value bet of the day!

#1 Adaline Julia (7/2) Ran a strong front-running effort last time out to break her maiden as the favourite; Steps up in class but there are a lot of positives to like going into here; Has a good post to work from with 22% winners from the rail; Jockey and Trainer have been hot Last 14 days (16-4-2-1) and had a sharp workout on January 15th going 4 furlongs in 48 breezing being the 3rd best workout that day out of 146 horses; Diodoro has this one is a good spot and will be tough to beat if this one decides to go early on in this race

#6 Arabian Knight (1/1) Ran a very sharp race 1st time out at Keeneland for trainer Bob Baffert getting the job done by 7 1/4 lengths! Has been off for 2 months and this is the first time this one is going to try a route race but Baffert doesn't care about that since he is 31%/66% with horses of 46-90 days and 29%/61% with horses 1st at route; Jockey Velazquez stays on from last start and if the pace isn't too quick up front to wear 'Knight out this one can be long gone today

Yea I agree was great in the BC undercard and do also hope he can go all the way into the Derby even though it is a Bob "juice" baffert horse

#7 Empire Pass (9/5) Could have made wins 4 in a row last time out but got snuffed at the finish to place 3rd by 4 1/2 lengths in the mud here at Oaklawn; Has been off since December 9th (51 days) but that won't stop Diodoro from getting this one live here now; Few key changes is that she is dropping in class along with cutting back in distance which both will aid today; Hot Trainer/Jockey combo L14 days for Torres/Diodoro with a record of 12-4-0-3; This race is LOADED with early speed and I do expect fast fractions early on but I think this one emerges as the best speed horse today going along with all the positives heading into this race
