#179flashes of life here and there but overall been a rough go for a few months now..dropped the last 4 today after a good start early..I'm just posting picks and not playing (that's known by most in here)... have a bad memory but think my performance assessment is in the ballparkComment -

#180nothing wrong with doing that..imoyou have to be careful about changing things too much because something is working well over a few weeks..I think whether changes made are good for the long haul is more of a feel thingComment -

#182R2 #1 school of thought (6-1)
irad stays aboard (after a ship back from mth) for bad trainer..not a bad effort when he rode her for the 1st time 2 back..many back numbers get it done here and FINALLY after 7 starts following the claim races at the level of the claim

#193R1 #5 highway harmony (5-1)
R4 #7 false hope (15-1)
last race with blinkers off was a big improvement ..
lots of excuses along the way including multiple extreme posts, yielding turf and terrible trip(s)..gets prat for the first time ..not the best longshot name
.R5 eloquist (8-1)
career start 8 today..3years old..like the maiden breaker @ parx around 2 turns in start 3 vs special's..all kinds of excuses before and after including bad posts trips over his head etc..comes here 2nd off the layoff from parx with a trainer who is good with both of these moves (shippers,2nd off) ..spotted reasonably here
R7 #10 spicer (5-1)
highly competitive race and probably should just be passing..
like her maiden breaker in start 2
(4 back as a 2yo) ..feel pace compromised in both of her last 2..prat stays aboard and with chad brown has racked up a lot of wins
R8 #1 bankit (9-5)
significantly easier spot than last 3 and they thought enough of him to give a mile at dubai a shot..has run well here in the past and also at a 1 turn mile downstate...realize this is closer to 1 1/2 turns but close enough
R9 #2 maddies surprise (10-1)
can't understand why jose ortiz would hop aboard a 4yo fts for gary sciaca..trainer however will bring home a bomb on occasion especially on turf and unlike the other a great longshot name
R10 #7 waterville (6-1)
when the owner breeder is waterville lake stables and you name a horse this you must like it..pedigree reflects that and like what she's done in 3 career starts..raced twice here as a 2yo and was placed first via disqualification in start 2 which was her maiden breaker..solid 2nd by a length in her 3yo debut at aqu..have to think the owner/breeders would love her to get through this condition at this track

#209Ortiz just changed agents last week. Steve Rushing took his book. Steve has been around forever. He had Prado in Md. back in the day. Steve has a lot of connections with older trainers and I'm sure that is what happened here. Steve started at Suffolk as an exercise boy probably 45 years ago. He knows just about everyone from the east coast. Don't be surprised if you see more of this with older trainers that know Steve from the past. More often than not, the horse will be more alive than the paper might show.
When the older name trainers have a live mount, they will try and go to Steve as often as possible.
And doubt I have to say it, but Steve isn't just lucky. He's as good as an agent can be. And very likeable because he will book mounts for everybody. All they have to do is have the horse.
Hope that helps. Pretty sure it will.Comment -

#210Steve also has Irad Ortiz. Check out the last race yesterday. Klesaris bomb with Irad. that is the connection to old name trainers I am talking about. Another 40 year plus trainer.

on another note there's an army mule in R1 at churchill #3 conversational (8-1)..I think he's got a decent shot to improve off a useful debut..like the trainers numbers with maidens..johnny v aboard
first choice #7 always smiling (8-1)
sure it's an excellent card on opening day but haven't looked beyond R1Comment
