there are lots of positives here but ill get the major negative over with first..

trainer bad on cutbacks


positives

donk (trainer) is great value (understatement) overall ,on turf and in allowance races over very large samples

doing well early in the meet


doing well with johnny v over last 60 days

ran the kind of line in a route race i like to cutback (close-up throughout and only lost by 3.5..avg lengths behind to stretch call < 1 length)

pace was very fast by pace figures in that race


has won @ 6f but on the dirt in his last 10 races..the other 2 attempts excusable off a very long layoff(verybad trip also) and sloppy track(3rd not horrible)


two 2nds from 2 starts at saratoga


a lot to like but this is a deep competitor field..i'd give it a go

maybe the david bowie,johnny cash (3 -ring of fire 7-2) exacta lol..that one legitimate contender

don't think epicenter (#2) can stay with him early based on bris pace figures although i can't see him not giving it a try ..cuts back a half furlong from the preakness..looks like a good set-up to me

extremely expensive for the pedigree..sire is one of the better one's with fts and an above avg turf influence..turf and fts are not this trainer's strong suit
but that will help the price..jockey avg turf but with his roi he has definitely brought some prices home..

my takeaway from this is in spite of a scenario that obviously didn't favor the winner and was run in a fashion that didn't favor him he was still a huge favorite in the race..odds speak loudly imo
