Shit USA/KAZ and CAN/KAZ should both be around -200ish but fully expect both to score at least 2 on Borat in the 1st.

Great battle from Latvia... They used to be the laughingstock - wish they had 2 more goals though... I still ended up a little (enough for dinner ...)

Tomorrow will be VERY interesting with all of the big names big guns and freaky goalies to round out the pack.

Set your alarms there folks, the action starts at 9:15 EST and should prove to be a HUGE blowout - I'm talkin' EPIC!

I know most of you folks use the 'books' for wagering - I am learning about them - but still using Betfair to for my bets. Game lines are:

O/U line at 6.5 & another with KAZ getting 3.5 goals - IMHO that's like shooting fish in a barrel

The rest of the games all have great lines for me - I hopr your books treat you as good as I see every game having a minimum of 6 and a high probability of more.

Careful with the USA pick, this is one of their weakest rosters in a few years. They are also adding players for tomorrows game and trying people in different roles, there will be an adjustment period for both the team and the player (players that have no experience on the big ice at all). Also, people overrate international teams in general. An NHL team would likely be favored over any of the teams in this tournament, even Columbus vs Sweden or Canada.

The quality of players in the tournament is well below the average in the NHL obviously and even among the top countries, while the player quality appears to be star studded, the overall result and quality of hockey on the ice is well below even what the Columbus Blue Jackets put out on a nightly basis. Very sloppy, weak systems, little familiarity.

Teams like Kazakhstan and Switzerland can surprise because it's the same national team year after year and they have set systems and familiarity of team even if they don't have the talent.

Teams like Russia and USA are in my opinion the worst value in the tournament and massively overrated in price right now. I would take Columbus or Edmonton at even money against either.

Team USA has been very kind to me so far(Unlike Finland) so Im gonna go ahead and lay 800$ on the over 6.5 @ +105! Counting on Borat to score a couple of goals as well.

Aznbluff (& the rest of you regulars on this post), first and foremost I want to apologize if I came off sounding like a 'know it all'... In my almost 50 years of walking this planet, I've realized that the older I get - the less I really know. I love to learn and share my knowledge with all. Yesterday I was slightly... lubricated as my insurance company just informed me that I was not at fault & my deductible was going to be waived for a car accident I was in recently (Here's a great link that will allow you to make a professional grade sketch of what actually happened http://www.accidentsketch.net/ It saved my bacon, and was free.)

Now, to our discussion, you make some VERY strong points regarding compatibility & comfort level between the players of teams that are 'formed' from NHL teams missing the playoffs & their junior systems vs 'national teams' that have played with each other for the full year(s) - believing that is a fools stance I would never take.

But

I would strongly argue that the experience gained by NA players as they progress through the ranks, coupled with the fact that many have played / trained / competed with each other on their journey to the NHL allowed them to develop 'personal databases' on many of their peers characteristics. Their knowledge and skill capacity are then given the ultimate boost when they reach the NHL and are, for the most part, exposed to the best level of training available that fully utilizes the latest and greatest tools, techniques, and personnel to deliver them.

If Kazakhstan were to have a more robust economy and access to better developmental tools, I would rank them much higher. Currently, they are ranked 16 by the IIHF and suffered their worst defeat at the hands of the US (10 - 0 in 2010).

Also, the US roster only has 2 non NHL'ers while the Kaz has none.

SUI 5 - KAZ 1
FRA 6 - KAZ 3
BLR 3 - KAZ 2
SVK 4 - KAZ 2

I also agree that this may not be the best team the US has iced, but it easily surpasses Kaz.

The Russians have some 'deadly' skaters who, IMHO, are pissed at being out of the playoffs so early.
-Couple that with the fact that that this tourney has direct bearing on placement for the 2014 Olympics in Russia and I would be very, very surprised if they weren't 'out for bear'.

The Swedes are another team that ooze talent and also have a proverbial 'chip on their shoulder' - Daniel Alfredsson, native hero potentially ready to retire combined with favored Norris candidate Eric Karlsson & a group if high-end talent from the NHL as well...


I believe we will be seeing the overall winner in one of today's games -
