1.) Detroit Red Wings (ML) vs. Nashville Predators - The Red Wings come into tonights game coming off an unimpressive showing against the Rangers. However Nashville comes in after an even worse performance against Edmonton. Nashville is 2-11 after games in which they score fewer than 1 goal. Look for the Nashville offensive woes to continue while the Red Wings will welcome Thomas Holmstrom back tonight.

2.) Edmonton Oilers vs. Chicago Blackhawks (ML) - The Blackhawks have not been playing like Stanley Cup Champions lately but I think that tonight they have a turn-around game. They have won in Edmonton the last 5 times they have visited and boast a 7-3 record in their last ten against the Oilers. I see Chicago coming out hungry for a win tonight.

3.) Calgary Flames (ML) vs. Ottawa Senators - Calgary has joined the ranks of the elite teams in the NHL. While Ottawa has tanked as of late. Tonight the Senators have decided to play Lehner in goal. Somewhat of a rookie to the NHL. Look for the offense of the Flames to give Lehner a tough challenge tonight.

As for capping method.....I think I can speak for both of us. It comes down to about 4 things.

1. Recent results. (Who's Hot, Who's Not)

2. Team Trends (How they perform off a loss, how they preform after 3 game losing streak, etc.)

3. Head-to-head records

4. Gut instinct

This is kind of the strategy that the two of us use. We also sit down and bounce ideas off each other before placing our bets.

I don't have a specific system yet, I've been simply taking match ups I like from watching previous games that fall into solid profitable angles. Hockey as you probably know is as much about emotion as anything so I take teams that are playing well, even if they aren't necessarily winning all the games they are playing well in. I try to stay away from teams that are on long winning or losing streaks unless I see the streak ending. So far I've been having some great reads on teams and have been quite profitable, but have been hurt on other nights too. Hopefully we can keep moving up in the green.

That's how I do it too, but I'm not having quite as much success. I should probably do more homework before I place my bet though haha. This is only my first season so I expect to learn from my mistakes and get better as I go along.

Thursday's Plays

1.) Montreal Canadians (ML) vs. New York Islanders - The New York Islanders intend on starting rookie goaltender Mikko Koskinen who was abosolutely horrible against the Maple Leafs. I look for the Canadians to have another good night finding the back of the goal against an inexperienced starting goalie. I also feel like after last night circus in Boston a return trip home is exactly what the Habs need.

2.) Pittsburgh Penguins vs Los Angeles Kings (ML) - The Penguins are so banged up right now that I just don't feel comfortable letting the opportunity to bet aginst them at home slip by. I've read reports that the Penguins have called up several players from their AHL affiliate. With little preparation and cohesiveness I don't see the Pens sneaking out tonight with a win against a quality Los Angeles team that has been streaking of late.
