Holla - you could be right - I still think 2 of 3 faves win...I would go with Leafs as a dog if I had to choose.
Caps have too much on their side from what I've looked at...I do think the -170 line is a bit extreme - the reason I went with Avs TT (U 2.5) instead of ML...wouldn't be a bad play for Avs +1 at -118...but if you're gonna side with Avs, may as well go for the ML...I predict a 3-2 Caps win and a 4-3 Lightning win.

The only time I take dogs is at +1...I have always been scared to take dogs unless in hoops with the plus points...which probably is a big reason I am in the hole and not in the green.

This is only my 2nd season betting nhl...and really only my 2nd following it closely...don't have a good handle on who could pull the upset or not...just researching, seems like Ducks, Habs, Rangers, Blues, and Hawks are strong road teams that you should almost always back when mild faves or dogs...

I don't know why aren't Bolts a bigger favorite here given the current form of both teams, nearly all the elements of the game going in favor of TB, mutual history and starting goalies. Makes me think books see a wider picture and the upset.

This line and potential movement reminds me of last week's game - Chicago at Minnesota.
Hawks were at -140 at the open and moved to -175 at close...relatively easy win for Hawks, 4-2.
Granted I don't think we'll see that vast a movement, but probably around -150 by close.

That is true but TB plays a match vs Bruins tomorrow. Bruins are divisional rivals while Bolts have already owned Flyers twice this year.

I'll just wait for a while and decide later if I bet on TB. If I can't decide, I'll just flip a coin.

Good points...didn't consider the b2b...don't really know how teams perform on the front end typically in nhl. (???)...maybe they are looking ahead to Tues. night game at Boston?

Last year I kept track of it, this year I don't. I checked for TB... seems like 7 times they were already in this situation, playing b2b on the road... they won the first match 4 times and lost it 3 times. 5 times Bishop was the starter, Nabokov started once and they won that match, once Bishop got injured and Nabokov replaced him. They are 3-4 playing the second match of the road b2b so no real trends here.

I REALLY wanted to take Under 6 when it was -140...now at -180, so that's too big of a risk.
I feel it will be a 3-2 game, but there could easily be an empty-netter to hit 6.
I have not done well with Unders the last 2-3 weeks, unless it's a total of 5...have hit my last 3 with that total, which is hard to do, because it most often hits 5.

If there was no trend in last 5 meetings for the Under, I would not touch the Under...also the 2 goaltenders have been pretty strong lately, which is usually a good time to go for the Under.
I read somewhere that when Varlomov starts on the road vs a winning team, he has a great GAA...not sure exactly the #, but he proved it at Chicago in his last road start.
If I didn't play the Avs TT (U 2.5) and felt pretty strongly they win, I would go with U 5.5 if it were -120 or better...just personally...the stats I DON'T like are the O/U at 10-6 for Caps home games (8-8 for Colorado road games) - this is through games on Dec. 31st.

I am a 95% stats and trends guy...I have only watched the equivalent of about 4-5 periods of hockey this season, which is a couple more than last season.
When my boys get older, will have some more time to watch...a month or so ago, I didn't even know who Ryan Getzlaf or Corey Perry were.

Just want to add that in the Caps 8 wins at home this year with Holtby starting, 7 of them he has not allowed the opposition to score 2+.
Likely that if Caps win, the Avs don't score 3...but the unlikely certainly has happened before!...and Caps may not even win.

ha ha - that was a good call, as Anaheim has had nearly 75% of its home games go Under...when it DOES go Over though, it REALLY goes Over.

Looking ahead at Tues. totals, 2 Unders I like are Isles-Rangers (5.5) and will likely take a stab at FL-Winny (U 5)...don't see Jets scoring much on Luongo, and they are back at home, where they don't score much...the TT for Edmonton could very well be set at 1.5...if it's Brodeur, I may take a stab at that one for plus $.

Good idea man...I sat out yesterday (as I usually do on Sundays to take a break) but had these 2 plays in mind before today.
Will pick 3 plays for tomorrow...trying to limit my bets to 3 per day.

I don't know about the rationale but I like the pick in the caps game. Wash is lucky to score 2 goals on col when they match up & you really have to admire the quality of goaltending on both teams in 2015.
