Philadelphia Flyers - Ottawa Senators
Flyers are a mess but their long 8 games road trip has come to an end and they had time to regroup at home. Hextall is not happy at all and he said some changes in the roster are unavoidable. Giroux is questionable for tonight but they still have some efficient players in the offense without their captain should he miss another one. Voracek, Simmonds and lately Lecavalier is doing well. They scored three times on a powerplay in last 3 matches. No info about goalie - Emery or Mason but at this point I don't care about it, either of them should perform the same. Senators are not among the best teams either, they are losing more than winning and their road record is very poor. No powerplay goals in last 6 matches while they allowed 5 shorthanded, the most efficient player is still Karlsson which should tell their story. Most of Philadelphia's season victories come at Wells Fargo Center and while neither of the teams is in good shape I think Flyers can start building a momentum at home ice and avoid dropping 6 straight matches. I expect a close one but Flyers are the only team which haven't won a shootout this year yet (0-5) so that's bound to change sometime, right?

Toronto Maple Leafs - Washington Capitals
It's tough to bet against Capitals as they are red hot at the moment but Leafs have fired their coach (one could say finally) and often teams do well playing their next match in such cases. Basically the teams went in separate directions since the last time they have met. In the end of November Leafs have won with high 6-2 but since then they are on a downfall and Capitals have risen. Despite that one should note Leafs are coming from a long streak of 7 road games where they went 2-5 but they have since returned home and were free for 3 days. They fired the coach so they should go into the rest of the season with a fresh start to chase the playoffs spot. They are currently holding 8th place so nothing is lost yet. Despite the late struggles they are still a decent offensive team. Capitals don't have rock solid defense and in addition they will have to do without Niskanen tonight. Holtby is the difference maker lately but throw enough shots at him and you will score. Leafs should be motivated enough to win. If firing Carlyle doesn't help them, I don't know what else will.

Teams are pretty evenly matched but Flames are well rested at home ice while Wings will play back-to-back on the road so gimme Calgary.

Philadelphia Flyers - Washington Capitals
Flyers made a good effort vs Senators to finally win a match, although it took them 5 rounds into the shootout. Mason is confirmed to start tonight and he was pretty solid vs Senators making more than 40 saves. Since Holtby started for Capitals yesterday, most likely Peters will stand in the net on the other side. Capitals are 2-4 playing back-to-back this season, they lost all 3 games where 2nd one was on the road scoring no more than 2 goals while allowing 4 in each of the 3 matches. While they are playing better hockey than Flyers at the moment, they are more vulnerable without Holtby or even if he starts back-to-back, tired goalie is never a good option (similar situation with early relief for Fleury vs Bolts before Christmas). Another advantage for Flyers is home ice, Capitals are not doing well playing in Philadelphia. It's tough to back up Flyers and at the same time fade Capitals but gimme rested Flyers at home!

Tampa Bay Lightning - Buffalo Sabres
To keep it short, Sabres are by far the worst offensive team, especially on the road and they are playing vs top Eastern team with solid defense. On top of it they are playing back-to-back which doesn't suit them at all according to previous season matches with same situation. In 3 mutual matches with TB so far they've only managed to score 2 goals in regulation (2:1* SO, 0:5, 1:5). Most of the books offer the line of 1.5 but I like to buy additional 0.5 point to cover the push in case one of the teams goes mental. This line is for regulation only so the odds are good.

Arizona Coyotes - San Jose Sharks
Neither of the teams is really consistent but Sharks need to bounce back and defend 8th place. Coyotes seem like a good team to do that. The only advantage (other than home ice) Arizona has over SJ is physicality. Niemi is the likely starter and I see no reason why not with his awesome career stats vs Coyotes. Thornton has recovered from injury, he is first center of the team and a good playmaker so he should add more depth and scoring efficiency. Coyotes have inconsistent offense, weak defense and totally out of shape bum for a starting goalie so no wonder they are drifting to the bottom. They will go with Dubnyk tonight who is a better choice than Smith. They managed to steal a victory earlier in the season but expect it to be the other way around this time.

Washington Capitals - Philadelphia Flyers
Time for Capitals to tie the season mutual series with Flyers up. First of the back-to-back games for Philly, Zepp in net, missing Coburn, they are weak defensively, especially on the road where they've only won 6/23 matches. While both teams have good offense, Capitals currently play much more solid on defensive end and Holtby is one of the hottest goalies in the league. I think better defense will win tonight so I will go with Washington.

Florida Panthers - Vancouver Canucks
Luongo stole the show the last time these two played in Vancouver. I think the tables are turned tonight and Canucks have better chances to win. They are coming of back-to-back shutouts, Miller is in good form, defense is solid, they started scoring goals again after the recent slump. It's the other way around for Panthers, Luongo is struggling, lost 3 matches while allowing 14 goals, offense is inconsistent.

EBEL: Olimpija Ljubljana - Orli Znojmo
I don't know how fast will the news get out but first goalie Chiodo has left Olimpija. He was a starter in almost all matches for Olimpija this year and he was the difference maker in matches where they've won or thanks to him they normally contained losses within a reasonable margin. I've wrote about Olimpija plenty of times this year, they remain the worst team in the league. They've picked up a bit since the awful start but they are still last. No Chiodo is a huge handicap and second goalie Sila went to Hungary, though he was lent there so he might come back for Friday's match. If he won't be available, young goalie Trelc will start and he is nowhere near EBEL level. Either way, none of the goalies is on Chiodo's level so Znojmo should take advantage of it. They are a high scoring team with good powerplay realization and they are certainly a much better team than Olimpija. I expect odds to drop alot by Friday so hop on it early.

Pittsburgh Penguins - Winnipeg Jets
One week left until the match but Malkin and Crosby are out due to injuries. They are a core of Penguins, first and second centre and the way they are playing, that's like 50 % of the team missing. Pittsburgh is still without Dupuis and Hornqvist who normally played with Crosby in 1st line. In defense Letang is questionable, first d-man on the team. He might got concussed vs Flyers and if he did, he is out vs Jets as well. Maatta will miss the entire season, another top 4 defenseman. With all the missing players Penguins are also weakened on powerplay alot, since only Kunitz is left. Basically half of the team will be filled with AHL players. Penguins have some talent in those players but I don't think they can win vs complete NHL team. Jets might be without Perreault, efficient 2nd line winger which takes away some depth but otherwise the team is complete. Given the odds this is a no-brainer, value is enormous. I expect a huge fall of the odds and different lines by other bookies when they open the offer. Probably a sure-bet will be possible to be made.
