Picks for 2/28/13:

Senators @ Bruins, Under 5 (even) - I'm replacing the Leafs/Islanders ML pick with this one since I couldn't get a good feel for that one. The Senators have had one game go over 5 goals in the last 10 games and that one game was the second leg of a B2B on the road against the Penguins. Also, the Senators have only had 4 games go over 5 goals all year, 3 of those games were on the second leg of a B2B. They are coming off of two days rest. The Senators have also had trouble scoring this year and they are going up against a very stingy Bruins D that has only given up 6 goals in the last 4 games. With two strong D's and only one strong O I'm taking the Under.

Maple Leafs @ Islanders, Over 5.5 (even) - Reimer should be back in goal tonight for the Leafs but he has been out a while and could be rusty, plus the Leafs are going to be a bit tired from last night. 4 out of the Islanders last 5 home games have gone Over while the last two Toronto games have gone over and 2 of their last 3 road games have gone Over. Also, out of the Leafs back end of B2B games, 2 of 3 have hit the Over. I'm going with the Over tonight.

Oilers @ Stars, Oilers ML (+130) - Stars are playing their 3rd game in 4 days, the last two of which went into overtime. Oilers are coming off a tough loss at the Blackhawks but played extremely well in that game. I think this will be a let-down spot for the Stars. The Stars also just traded their team leading points leader and will be getting Ryder, but I think it will take a few games for the chemistry to form. Stars have lost their last 2-3 at home and don't have a great home-ice advantage. The Oilers have had two days rest and will be getting Hall back from a 2 game suspension. I like the Oilers here.

Oilers @ Stars, Under 5 (+115) - I know the 6 of the last 7 Stars games have hit the Over, but all those have been without Lehtonen in net. Only 3 Oilers games have gone Over 5 goals all season (including 12 of the last 13), only one of those coming on the road. The Oilers just held the Blackhawks to 3 goals and I think will lock down on Dallas tonight. I think the Stars will be tired and will have trouble scoring while the Oilers just aren't a great scoring team at all. I'm liking the Under.

Penguins @ Hurricanes, Penguins PL (+210) - The Pens have the 3rd best PP in the league, the Canes have the 6th worst PPK in the league. The Pens have been playing well lately and I think they look to comeback strong against the Canes. Pens are 8-3 on the road while the Canes are 3-4 at home. 9 of the last 10 wins for the Pens have been by 2 goals or more. If you think they will win, odds are it will be by 2 or more. I like them to win here against a somewhat banged up Canes team.

Penguins @ Hurricanes, Over 5.5 (-120) - Again, one of the best PP teams vs a subpar PPK team. Canes have actually been solid on the Penalty Kill in the last 5 games (allowing only one goal) but the Pens have had at least one PP goal in their last 12 games and I expect at least one tonight. Pens have scored 21 goals in the last 5 games while the Canes have allowed 17 goals in their last 5 games. Pens have also allowed 16 goals in the last 5 games. I like this one to go Over.

well another even night at 3-3. Can't believe the Pens game didn't hit the Over, goodness. And the Stars... didn't get to watch the game, but was Lehtonen standing on his head? Oh well, still not losing night and 18-13 in my last 5 days of picks without a single negative day. Looking forward to tomorrow, hope everyone else did well tonight! Cotes, you've been hot lately, how'd it go tonight? Stars? etc?
