Mac4Lyfe,
interesting comments about recruiting and sun belt teams picking up players with academic/behaviour/etc. issues.
a couple of observations related to that,
1) recruiting ratings i think take academics into account far more than people think.... i knew of a tailback who was 5-star recruit. he was better but not incredibly better than some 2 star tailbacks i was familiar with. i asked his coach about this and he said 1) he was tall for TB. not just another 5 foot 8 inch, 190 lb TB of which there are many; 2) honours student vs. couldn't qualify in many cases...... so he ends up at stanford. the 2 stars who can play end up at MAC or sunbelt if they can qualify........ also, i think ND or stanford being hot on a player positively impacts their recruiting rating.
2) i think the ratings services could give so many more players in alabama, florida, georgia, texas etc. 3-stars but they need to spread things a round a bit. and perhaps they like to keep it to a manageable number
either way, lesser programs in good geographic areas can end up with lots of good players.
