Bellator Fighting Championships are hitting the big time, by teaming up with MTV productions to promote their organization in prime time on MTV2 at 9pm tonight. Tonight's fight will decide the Welterweight Championship.
Bellator 43 will feature title welterweight division fight between Rick"Judo" Hawn(11-0) and Jay" Thoroughbred" Hieron (21-4).
Jay" Thoroughbred" Hieron: 6 foot even 170 lb.
Jay Hieron has a impressive record of 21-4 and has won 9 straight coming in to this fight vs Hawn. Jay is 34 and has fought in many organizations, such as the UFC, SF, IFL, and Affliction. Jay was the last welterweight champion of the IFL before it went of business and left him to start over again at 34. Jay has Been in the cage with the likes of GSP (lost 1R), Jake Ellenberger (unanimous decision win) and Jason High (win KO Rd1).
Jay trains out of Xtreme Couture and is a great wrestler, who before he got tossed off the Hofstra College Wrestling team, was ranked 3rd in the NCAA at 158 pounds. Jay is very good with his hands, due to his training in kick boxing at the Bellmore Kick boxing Academy. A month ago Jay fought Brent Weedman (18-6) at Bellator 40 in the semifinals, and won a unanimous decision to secure a spot in Saturday finals vs Hawn.
He will have to depend less on his wrestling in this fight, due to Hawn was a member of the 2004 Olympic Judo team. Jay is the better of the two in the stand up department and is a way more seasoned fighter then Hawn. Jay has very hard leg kicks and he'll need them to keep out of Hawns range so his judo wont take over the fight.
Rick "Judo" Hawn: 5 foot "9 170 lb.
Rick "Judo" Hawn missed getting on the 2008 Olympic, after placing 9th and going 2-2 in Atlanta for Team U.S.A. This helped push him to a MMA career as a living. Rick has so far amassed a perfect record of 11-0 in his MMA career. He is one of the best in the world with his Judo skills, but his stand-up needs some work. Rick has a Mauy Thai back ground as well, and he possesses heavy hands as his record shows with 7 KO in 11 fights.
Rick who lives and trains in Boston, sought out striking coach Mark DellaGrotte, who's trained greats like Frank Mir and Ken Florian, for the stand up help he needed. Rick fought Jim "Judo" Wallhead (21-5) in the Bellator quarterfinals and the two fighters Judo skills canceled each other out, leaving the two fighters standing, where Rick beat him and won by unanimous decision.
Ricks last fight in the semifinals was against the Bellator Season 1 Welterweight Champion, Lyman Good (11-2), and Rick used his judo to gain a upper hand on the ground and won a close split decision over the former champion.
The conclusion
5 dimes has released their MMA betting odds with Jay Hieron at -140 ml and Rick Hawn +120 ml. It looks as if Jay's experience, better stand up, and leg kicks should let him win a close decision Saturday night. I think that Rick will try to get him in a clinch to use his judo to take him down, but Hieron will want none of it and use his leg kicks to keep his distance. Jay is the way more experienced fighter here and that will pay off Saturday night.
My Pick: Jay Hieron -140 ml at 5 dimes 1x
add baker 1x

Pac Man is the pound for pound king of boxing and he's back in action on Saturday night vs. Sugar Shane Mosley.
Manny has set many records in Boxing and he was at it again by winning his 8th title in 8 different weight classes when he destroyed Antionio Margarito at Dallas stadium last November 13, and captured the vacant WBA Super Welter Weight Title.
The man who stands in Pac Man's way of continuing his reign over boxing is Sugar Shane Mosley, a 39 year old former three time champion himself. The experts in the boxing community are pointing to Shane Mosley's most recent fights vs Floyd Mayweather (Loss by unanimous decision) and Sergio Mora (draw), they are claiming he isn't the same fighter he was when he beat Margarito in 2009.
The fighter
Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2 38KO'S) will return to the ring after a year lay off Saturday night, during which time he became a congressman of his home country of the Phillippines. Back in the ring, Manny has been rolling over every boxing opponent they have put in front of him for six years now, and coming into the fight vs. Mosley he has won 13 straight.
Manny has been thought of as one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world for years now, having become an almost permanent fixture at the top of the the list at Ring Magazine, and his last loss was to Eric Morales (who Manny then beat twice in their rematches) back in march 19, 2005. He is 32 years old and he is at the top of his game and he will be defending his WBO welterweight title for the second time (the first was against Clottey), since capturing it from Cotto back in November 2009.
There has been some concern regarding focus and outside distractions for Pacquiao. Indeed Manny's trainer, Freddie Roach, complained about the training camp for the fight with Margarito and how it got out of hand with the media presence. Yet despite the seemingly bad camp Manny still destroyed Margarito who was 17 pounds heavier then him.
From the first day in his training camp this time around Manny has been focused, and things have been quiet with no media distractions. Manny is taking Mosley very seriously since Shane finished Margarito in the 9th round of their fight, and has the speed Margarito lacked.
In the final press conference Wednesday, trainer Freddie Roach said that this was their best training camp ever and Manny's in the best shape of his career, plus Manny has trained harder then he's ever seen. All a little worrying for Mosley given Pacquiao's record.
Should Manny take this fight, as the sportsbooks expect, then he will most likely fight Marquez again in the fall. A fight which could eclipse this one in terms of betting action.
Tale of the tape: Manny is 32 years old, 5 foot 6 inches and has a 67inch reach. Pound for pound #1
The fighter
Sugar Shane Mosley, (46-6-1)39 by way of knockout, is no push over and he's a three time title holder in three weight classes himself. He lost his WBA (Super) Welterweight championship to Floyd Mayweather in May 1 of last year after winning the title as a 4-1 underdog against Antonio Margarito (TKO 9) in a huge upset. This was the same man that Manny dismantled (in a unanimous decision) last year, but Shane was the only man to stop him for a loss that wasn't via decision.
Shane is now 39 and two years removed from that stunning defeat of Margarito. Many experts think he has no chance in this fight vs Pac Man. The main thing that the experts should realize is that styles make fights, and Shane won't have to chase Manny all over the ring. That will play into Shane's style of fighting, he said it best himself, "fighters who come straight forward I KO."
Shane comes into the fight with a height (5'9) advantage of 2.5 inches and a reach advantage of 7 inches (74inches), but Pac Man has been dealing with that for his entire career, so Mosley can not rely only on these tools. However, growing up in Cali, Mosley fought Mexican fighters who tended to come straight ahead ready for a war, which they tended to end up losing.
Manny's style fits that description (coming at you) and so the Pac Man had better use his angles well, or he will be handing Mosley a good chance at making this a competitive fight. Shane has excellent hand speed and that reach advantage of seven inches could translate into a jab advantage that could be very helpful to Shane to keep Manny at bay when he needs it in the fight. Shane has been doubted his whole career and really has never recieved the respect he truly deserves, however at 39 he'll need all the mojo he can muster to take Pac Man.
Tale of the tape: Shane is 39 year old, 5 foot 9 inches and has a 74 inch reach.
Conclusion:
Styles make fights and these two will go toe to toe for 12 rounds and Shane has more of a chance here then people realize. He does have good power and speed in his hands and if Manny makes a mistake early and doesn't use his angles, Mosley might pull-off a huge upset.
I think that this will be a great fight in the first half, but that Manny wins as Shane slows in the late rounds due to age (39) and wear and tear. I do think that it goes the distance and Manny out points and works him in a entertaining fight that Shane shows up for. Shane has never been KO'd in his entire career and I don't see Manny being the first to do it, that's why i like it going the distance.
The line
Manny -1000 : Sugar Shane +600
The o/u 11.5 : Under -160 and Over +140, but worth knowing that Shane has never been KO or TKO in his career!
All odds from 5Dimes
My bets
Not touching the fighters: but even if you like Mosley bet the over, it's the safer bet (+140) since he's never been KO (and go small on Mosley if you need to).
I like the start of the ninth round at -160 and a minute and thirty seconds into the 9th at -146 as the safest bet of all!
In case a ref wants to stop it, I like the over at +140 but I'm going larger on the 8th and up.
Interesting props at 5Dimes
Starts round 8 at -217 (if you don't mind the juice take it) I like it.
Manny/Mosley starts round 9 -160 (bet it).
Goes 1:30 in round 9 -146 (bet it).
Starts round 10 -124 (bet it).
11th round starts(+105) 9+10 are safer but I like it.
12th round starts (+138) is good, but take the over as it pays better (+140) and you hit it at 11.5 instead of start of the 12th.
