Miranda is going to have to use his jab and reach in this fight....maia's standup is very suspect (see marquardt vs maia all 6 seconds of it) I dont think its going to be a matter of takedown defense....if Miranda can circle and keep seperation he has a VERY good chance to win this fight.....If it goes to the ground Maia has the advantage...HOWEVER Miranda is no slouch at BJJ either.....Plenty of value on the Dog on this fight....may not be playign it myself but definately lean towards Miranda at the current odds than i do Maia at -200.

I am in on the Miranda play, but I don't think it's quite fair to gage Maia's standup using the Marquardt fight.

His standup has shown progression from that fight to the Silva fight to the Miller fight.

Granted this progression has been from absolutely horrid striking to pedestrian striking But nonetheless, don't want to sell Maia short here.

my feelings exactly, he has the speed and footwork to keep enough separation in the same manner Anderson was able to

I know a lot of people like Maynard/Florian to decision, but I think Florian inside the distance +193 has value.

FRANKIE EDGAR FOUGHT PENN "WITH STAPH INFECTION" (ARTICLE FROM FIGHTERSONLY):

One of the fighters in the UFC 112 main event between BJ Penn and Frankie Edgar had a staph infection - but its probably not the fighter you’re thinking of. According to a source very close to the fight, Edgar was diagnosed with a staph infection shortly before the bout but was deemed fit enough to compete.

Neither Edgar nor any of his team have ever publicly mentioned there being a case of staph infection going into the fight, but the information was passed to Fighters Only - initially on an off-the-record basis - by an impeccable source.

With a rematch between Edgar and Penn just days away, the source relented and agreed for the information to be published on the grounds that it would provide further interesting context for both the first fight and the rematch.

However, there was a lot of speculation around the time of the fight that Penn was carrying some sort of injury and many fans felt he did not look himself. Fighters Only was told at the time that the Hawaiian was injured.

The information came from sources close to the Hawaiian prodigy but Penn flatly denied it when we asked him in this video interview. “No, no, no I wasn’t injured. I wasn’t injured… I felt good for the fight and I just wish I could have put on a better show,” Penn said with a smile.

The rematch takes place at UFC 118 on August 28th in Boston, Massachusetts and will headline the event. Randy Couture is also on the card, being the welcoming party for James Toney as he makes his MMA debut following a distinguished boxing career.

Would not be surprised at all if it happened...hence why I've decided to add Florian to a couple of parlays! No point in adding Maynard to win to any parlays as his only way of winning this will be by decision IMO!

Ya I think its HIGHLY unlikely that Maynard can finish Florian. I will be extremely impressed (and dissappointed since I am on Florian!) if he does.

i feel like bj is probably going win but the odds just dont justify a bet. i would say bj wins 2 out of 3 times. but odds at -300 are just too much.

I hope this turns out better than Strikeforce last week fuckin Lashley and Lawal ruined parlays for me, by the way those two were at similar odds to Couture this weekend so mega upsets are always a possiblity, but i would still back Couture for this one.

I don't buy either part of that story, edgar had staph infection, or BJ was hurt. Edgar found a way to beat BJ Penn that night plain and simple. Will it be different this time around ? Depends who you ask but I sure as hell think so. I hate excuses and stories..whether before or after the fight. If youre going to mention it at all...you shouldn't have fought....like when anderson silva mentioned his ribs after the sonnen fight....true or not....shut up about it...you went out to fight...perform your best. Thats just my take on "injuries" and "infections" talked about after a fight.

Gray Maynard +145 is looking like a pretty sweet deal. Ive never been all that impressed with Kenny, and hes struggled with wrestlers in the past.Maynard has good standup and alot better wrestling than Florian. Its gonna be another decision win for Maynard.

I think a lot of ppl over-exaggerate Florian "struggling with wrestlers". He struggled against Sherk - yes, but that fight was 4 years ago and Kenny has made some drastic improvements to his wrestling since then. Since then he's fought Guida and Stevenson who are both primarily wrestlers and he finished them both fairly easily. Maynard's wrestling is very good but he hasn't shown much of it latelty. For the most part he has shown a tendency to want to keep fights standing, especially against guys who have good ground games and who he feels can threathen him with submissions. As for his striking, his boxing is average at best and he relies on looping single shots rather than mixing it up or using combinations. The gap between the two in the striking game is much larger than the difference in wrestling IMO. If his is able to hold Florian down for 3 rounds, especially after the past couple years where Florian has been training with great wrestlers like GSP and Rashad, I will be very impressed.

Gotta agree with you Ecco. Can't see Maynard pulling off a 3 round lay and pray. Not to mention, his stand-up is completely lacking compared to Florian's. Leaning hard towards Florian here. Probably my biggest play.
