Kinda think the biggest problem is the mindset. Gracie had Kennedy locked in a body triangle from the back with 1:30 to work. Guys are really good at defending the rear naked there, especially with the gloves. He just didn't try at all to beat him up some from there. Just kept trying to snake through to set up a choke instead of punching his face. When Kennedy got behind Gracie in round 2 and made him defend from getting back mounted, he instantly unleashed big punches. Took full advantage. It seems like the guys that come from sport jitz just don't resort to that first and don't get the most out of positional dominance.

i agree. Body Triangle might be one of the worse positions to be in and he did nothing with it. i was never impressed with him compared to a guy like Maia

Well, he can pwn Maia grappling. Round 1 was exactly what he wanted to do, but I just think in mma you want to beat someone up first when you've got their back. They might open up the opp for the sub if you bother them with punches, but either way you make them work and score the points in the judge's eyes. Giving Kennedy round 1 was absurd, but no way the judges do that if Gracie throws punches from that body triangle for the last minute.
