Mark "the Bird" Fidrych...
this guy had it all (but only for a while unfortunately, till an injury screwed up his delivery) AND had an unbelievable set of quirky habits that made him the centre of the the baseball world's attention whenever he started over the few month's that were his regrettably-short major-league heyday...if anybody remembers Mark Fidrych...chime in here (best example of hi-intensity "flash in the pan" i know of)...his flame burnt a short time...but oh so brilliantly (and he was the most amazingly entertaining pitcher i can ever recall)

The Bird was the best.
I loved watching that guy talk to the ball, the bases etc.
Was pumping gas between his 1st and 2nd seasons.....no huge contracts then for rookies.

And constantly "lanscaping" the mound, especially at the beginning of each inning...more idiosyncrasies than you could shake a stick at...(I'm sure he'd be diagnosed with one/some of the ADD/OCD/Asperger's etc. conditions today)...but at the heart of it all a very very effective pitcher (damn shame how a string of bio-mechanical complications snuffed out a very promising career)
