Mets bats are on fire...30 runs in 2 games??? Here comes Verlander to put them back in their places. Run differential and runs scored are a part of the equation that determines the plays, so technically, Detroit has been pushed out of being a play today. However, we use the same logic here that we did on the Red Sox a couple weeks ago. Mets are a bit of an outlier because of the abnormally high number of runs they have scored the last two games. The system doesn't understand this anomaly and gives the Mets too much credit. We apply situational analysis here and stick with the play. At the same time, we back off on our bet and play to get back to even for the week, instead of the 3-3.5 units I might normally lay in this situation. We need to keep risk down and give ourselves a shot at staying up for the week. Even a Det loss today doesn't cripple us. Hopefully we'll get a full card on Friday to get the push we need to get the system in the black.

A devastating day for the system with two big losses. The curse of the week before All Star break seems to strike again. We have been on a solid run...if SF and TB can avoid sweeps, we'll get enough back to make this dent manageable. I should mention another strategy I use...not for official plays, but just an idea for your own strategy when sports betting. Often, when I'm in a situation with many units on the line and more than 3 plays, I will make a very small RR parlay of 2's and 3's on the otherside for insurance. I did this yesterday and actually ended up with a small profit on the day. This is only something I recommend for the ultra conservative bettor. I haven't tracked it, but I'd say I've come out ahead using this strategy over the past couple years. Let's get our wins today and try to get this system in the black where it belongs.

Thoughts on this data 7/13: After a rough start, the system got right on track with 4 straight winning weeks. Looking back at that first week, I made a few mistakes with the new implementation of the system. Since so much of the selection process is automated, I forgot to pay attention to factors that would have helped us avoid some losses. The system in general is still underperforming expectations by quite a bit. Since we aren't playing series this season, I expected our straight up win/loss record to approve and pave the way to more units. It's clear that this system will likely hit around 50% if we continue as such, which is fine as long as we are managing our units correctly.

If we remove our first week of play, this system would be an extremely respectable 61-52 and +14.5 units. That means we made some good adjustments, but in this game, you don't get the luxury of ignoring bets that were placed. I stated at the beginning of the year, that the main goal was to keep volatility low for this season. It seems that goal has been achieved well, again with the exception of the first week. We also had some medium sized fluctuation this past week which I didn't like. Overall, I'd say it's worth it to try and maintain our slow but sure forward progress. I'll keep running the system for at least 3 more weeks and then reevaluate at that point. I plan to use some of this information for next year, so while we are falling FAR short of expectations, the learning process does not end. Let's see if this system can push forward into the positive and stay there. Good luck to all as we start the second half.

Arrrrgh. Cleveland is single-handedly crushing this system. Can't win when we're on them, can't beat them when we are against them. Ruined what would have been a monster day for this system costing us 4 units. They are probably responsible for close to 15 lost units at this point. That's as much venting as I'll allow myself on a day that we won units. Minnesota has fallen out of the system after those two losses, so we take our lumps. Boom...we continue a great roll and we can celebrate being officially in the black for the first time this season! It's been a long road but it's a good lesson that the season is a grind. We are teetering on the edge right now so we need a little more of a cushion still before we can truly get aggressive with this system. The Philly game had a pitching change that I did not notice until after the start. I don't post these plays with listed pitchers, but I usually bet them that way. This time, because the line changed so much (went from -110 to -155) I can't count that win in good faith, even though the play would have been the same. From this point forward, all plays are listed as "action". If there is a pitching change, we accept the line move. Usually, I will come back and post the play again. I almost always check this in the late afternoon but I was in meetings yesterday and didn't have a chance.

Despite that, we still had a great day and the system has been on fire the last week. Let's hope it continues. More small plays today, but they have been moving us forward. You can tell we are getting close to August as the average lines are starting to inch way up. Looks like everyday has 4 or 5 games at -175 or higher. Might just be the matchups. Still, we stay patient and don't force anything.

Well, we took an absolute beating yesterday...good thing we kept our plays pretty small. Minimized the damage and kept us in the positive for the week still. We basically have the same plays today, but with much better value this time around on a few. Still, I've heavily reduced what we would normally play on these today...I don't like the way the weekend is shaping up so we'll try to keep risk down. If we get a win by Yanks and Red Sox today, we should be okay. Yanks have a double header...almost no time in between games so I've listed a conditional play again in case I can't get to a computer.
