**** the Pirates. 0-2 to start the day. Rebounding tonight. If its not looking good I'm going to chase the late game for 2 units. **** it. I've been pretty good with unit management so far and I can risk a couple. Wanted to get above .500 today but its going to be a tough slog.

Still treading water after an 0fer yesterday. Lessons learned yesterday: Jonny Cueto is for real and the Texas Rangers are still brutal despite a good performance in their road opener trip, and don't underestimate the Baltimore Orioles.

Still treading water and still probably a pretty good fade. Will continue to play half units until system plays can kick in.

what are system plays?

they are based about 75% on current years stats on a sliding scale (meaning in May I will only value current year trends at 60% or thereabouts and increases up to about 80% by the end of the year), where different factors and trends are on a weighted scale to determine the winner on a moneyline and very occassionally a runline if there is some wildcard factor. the other 25% of the system is based on past years and career trends, and other factors like weather and umpires. for total i use a different system that is more reliant on trying to find bullpen/lineup mismatches.
i am not a pure statistical bettor, but i use this system to help get strong leans.

....oh and by the way by no means do i consider myself an expert at baseball. i have been doing this seriously for about 8 seasons and have come away with atleast a small profit in 7 seasons, but i still have much, much to learn. i think my baseball knowledge is much higher than my handicapping knowledge but I am hoping that as time goes on I will reach the point where I can make a pretty hefty profit each season.

This is one of those teams that will find a way to lose, be it errors or bad BP. The Marlins are not a good team, yet they have mocked the Nats in this series. There is going to be money to be made on this team.

Did you see tonight's game? Matt Chico pitched the game of his career, Nats are only down 1-0 in the 8th inning, and yet they find a way to lose 3-0. I will continue to fade these guys in parlays.
