Ride bad teams who are playing well. The price never catches up until they start playing badly again.
Find certain pitchers (We can have a running thread. These will change throughout the season) and fade the shit out of them unless they are playing another fade pitcher.
As Illusion said, dogs and small faves are the way to go, though I completely disagree about never laying more than -130. I don't mind laying -150 at times; rare, but these lines can still be playable. Also, as I said earlier, Smoltz off a Braves loss is an automatic bet no matter what the price. He is something like 88% in his career the day after a Braves loss, with an ERA around 1.5.
Bet against the glamour teams whenever possible - most notably the Yankees.
On a related note, bet against teams who just finished a series with the Yankees.
General trends like how a team does against left-handed or right-handed pitching can be profitable.
These are all offhand, and I have been awake for a long time, and there is plenty more advice I could offer.

Any pitcher that has a decent whip who is getting plus money is always worth taking
Keep a close eye on how well the bullpens are pitching
