I am 4-0 in MLB since I started using real money on Bookmaker.com, so I figured it's time to jinx myself by writing about my picks.
I like the Mets (-109) to beat the Marlins because they just let Santana down by blowing that game. The Mets are especially paranoid about choking because they are the Mets, so I expect them to be rejuvinated. The Mets are a .500 team so they are probably thinking that they need to get above .500. The Marlins are 28-27 so they are probably thinking "ehhh we can lose one and still be .500".
I like the Giants (-136) to beat the Pirates because Sanchez tends to show up against the bad teams. In fact, he already threw a 3-hitter against the Pirates earlier this year. Sanchez is coming off of a solid win over Arizona, so there is no pressure to beat Pittsburgh. It will be fun for him to try to do even better than last time. The Pirates, on the other hand, just swept the Cubs in a shortened series (due to a rain-out) so they aren't likely to be focused against a non rival.
I like the Astros (+110) to beat the Cubs. The Cubs are probably thinking they would have beaten the Pirates in the third game of their series. They are used to being good and now they are in a position where they have something to prove. Since the Astros are such a weak team, they cannot prove anything in this series. Therefore, they will not show up in the first game. The Astros are excited because they are on a 3 game winning streak. Now they are at home. Furthermore, Paulino is 0-7 so he is going to want to get his first win.
I like the Indians (+175) to beat the White Sox. The White Sox are coming off a win against Texas. I saw the first half of the game and the White Sox looked sluggish/unmotivated to me. Texas was active in the game. They played with stratedy, getting runs with sac flies and hits. All of Chicago's runs came from home runs, but it was enough to win 4-3. Chicago is an underachieving team, and underachieving teams are comfortable with wins, even if they play poorly. Chicago will therefore play the exact same way against Cleveland tonight. Cleveland played an inspired game yesterday, but lost. I think Cleveland will be excited to beat their rival in Chicago, to prove that the Detroit's series was a fluke, and they deserve more respect than +175 against a sub .500 team.
C'mon 8-0!
