is a former Major League Baseballfirst baseman. Even though he was productive, MontaƱez often carried the label "hot dog" for the whimsical manner in which he approached the game. After hitting home runs, he would trot very slowly around the bases, shuffling his feet on occasion. When catching infield fly balls, he would "snatch" the ball out of the air with his gloved hand and quickly shift glove and ball to the opposite hip, as if putting a gun in a holster. After receiving an attempted pickoff throw from the pitcher, he would sometimes repeatedly tag the baserunner who had safely returned to base. Antics such as these would irritate some teammates and opponents alike, and play to mixed results with the fans.

A great blast from the past. What's amazing is that as good as Boomer was, both at the plate and in the field, he had what is generally regarded as the worst season ever by a regular player. Check his 1968 numbers.
And while I'm here I might as well throw a bone to Jeff Bagwell. If you didn't see Bagwell on a daily basis, you probably don't know he was one of the greatest baserunners in baseball -- EVER IN BASEBALL -- and a very excellent defensive first sacker. Plus he tapped at least two Hooter's waitresses, so that has to count in the cool department.

Willie Montanez comes to mind. he had a certain flare on the field and a manner of snapping the ball shut in his glove. I was a huge Mets fan in the day and when we got him for awhile he played some decent ball at Shea. He was always a presence at the plate and was decent when with the Braves..maybe Phils too but my memory fades

Will "Tha Thrill" Clark. The 1989 version.
-the reason why pitchers cover their mouths when conversating on the mound. Ask Greg Maddux, 1989 NLCS.
Use to watch this guy at windy ass Candlestick. If it was Bottom of the 9th and the game was a blowout, he would rally everyone in the dugout to make the game interesting enough where the opposing team had to get their closer in the bullpen.
Seen this happen many times.

Boston's Dick Stuart he was a big strong left hander he had a great set of hands could pull the ball or take it down the third basemens line, I saw him at Fenway in the early 60's i was a shorty back then.
