'Coolest' 1st Baseman of all time
this is a 3 way tie with me ;;;;Joe Pepitone, Hawk Harrelson, and Boog Powell

I think the forum will come up with some better than these 3

lets just keep 1st basemen in this thread

        Keith Hernandez!

        Porno mustache
        Cocaine
Was on Seinfeld - dated Elaine
        Cover of GQ magazine
Quoted during broadcast: "I'm not saying women belong in the kitchen, but they don't belong in the dugout."
        13 Gold Gloves

Sure, Steve Garvey had the hair, but Hernandez has all the rest.

always think of carew and foxx as 2nd basemen , but know they played a lot of 1st

always list Harman Killabrew as a 3rd baseman but he would be on this list

wow, I never knew that foxx played 2nd...... guy was big and strong, hard to think of him as nimble enough to play 2nd back in the old days

For 'all time' I can think of only one man: Lou Gehrig.

I'll echo the Keith Hernandez votes so far, used to love to watch him play. Plus, what made him 'cool' in my mind was even when they outlawed smoking in the old Astrodome, Hernandez would be in the visitors' dugout puffin' away.

By the way, Jimmie Foxx never played second. Over 1900 games at first, 100+ at both third and catcher, one game at short, 21 in the outfield and 10 appearances on the mound.

read a great keith hernandez autobiography, season long journal type thing last summer...... it was a below avg read, but confirmed that he was indeed cool. Cool enough to use coke in the MLB and still have a great career....

Second coolest in the Hollywood sense of the word, and a distant 2nd at that.

Here is the coolest guy to play 1st base in the Hollywood sense of the word.

i take it that "coolest" doesn't mean best , although my guy was very good ---

there's this guy around who imitates batting stances and warmup swings. he's really good, i've seen him on baseball tonite and the letterman show. when we were kids, we used to imitate vic power (twins) and his classic warmup stance and swing.
