If my NBA season is any signs of my MLB season then I should quit now. You probably missed the biggest tanking of all time. I lost most of my profits. I didn't bother to grade the final results after losing the last game. I wasted my time doing an NBA Thread.
I am just bored with having my own thread and talking to myself in there. I will probably just stop posting plays and tail for a while.
Enjoy your action Wednesday.
MexicanStallion,
I am sorry to learn that. Had I known what transpired I never would have made reference to it but the last I knew you were up a significant amount. with your choices.

Good day today TA. Thankfully I had a good day because yesterday I was down like 8 units. Nothing went my way. Today went 3-0 Would have been 4-0 (probably) but they canceled my Pits bet earlier today.
Glad you had a very successful day/night of wagering but why was the PIT action canceled?

This is a good pick Foghorn; I hope we'll have a winner from you today. Something that we noticed: you had some of the best write-ups on your plays, and it was hard to notice you not cashing those bets where the blurbs were good. TA always told me that I'd do better if I could write out why I am taking the team that I am. It is true.
Based upon what you told me, I believe this is the correct course of action - not just for you but for everyone who wagers. By putting on paper or on-line a person will/might take one more read over the game and then make the choice to wager or not. Until a person gets a method/system/process/your term down cold, to me, it adds another layer of punter protection. Once a person has a a method/system/process/your term down cold - they should be able to blurb out at least one sentence as to why they are on the game.

Hey therber, I like your pick on StL -1.5, the Jays, Bos, Laa, and some of the others. I'm just wondering why you pick SF to win? Yes, they're going to look for revenge after playing terribly last night, but this Jonathan Sanchez for SF has a high era and is a career loser.
If there is something I'm overlooking I'd like to know for future games

Well remember, he has thrown a no-hitter. If you're in Boston, throwing a no-hitter makes you a great pitcher for the foreseeable future à la Clay Buchholz.

Thanks superjeff. I'll tell you what I like about SFO Giants, but first I have to tell you that they weren't my strongest pick. It is early in the season so for the most part I am playing the picks the same weight. I am not sure which ones I want to give more weight until later.
Today I like the SFO Giants over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
-Pirates have a piss-poor bullpen while the Giants are about avg. to better than.
-The Giants are showing better run production so far.
-SFO coming off a loss statistically show good results while the Pirates coming off a win show <50% W/L
-I want to see more performance this season from pitchers before basing to much on SPs
-SFO has a 10.5% higher slugging rate and a 12.7% higher BA.
These are simple factors to me...what kinda stuff are you looking at?

I have been looking on pitcher batter matchups, previous history of both starters. I ended up putting 2 units on -1.5 SFG +120 on 5 dimes. As long as Jon Sanchez can avoid giving up a ton of walks they should clobber Pitts. I bet on them a couple nights ago when they won 9-3 against that rookie. Last night I had them -1.5 too, but they left alot of runners on.
Are you going to bet the TOR CWS game? I have Jays +107 ML and I'm considering putting another couple units in.

superjeff,
Here is one good thought: You said you look at previous history of both starters. A very quick and simple thing that I like to check are streak indications. So for SPs check the career ERA and WHIP and then look at their 3 day ERA and WHIP. Depending on the difference between the four figures and how much you know about the individual you can quite accurately predict how they will continue to perform, turn up the level of play, or cool off.
Tell me more about the way you do "pitcher batter matchups." This is complex.
I like the Giants here... a lot of juice but they need to win this game. If they want to contend this year they are going to have to win series like this.

I look at how they've done the last few years first. Experience is important. If someone averages 8 walks per 9 but has only walked 5 per inning this year, it's more likely to be an anomaly and will likely even out. I also consider their W/L and how strong the team was in those years. Some guys are 14-8 but they have an era of 5.7 and get 7 runs a game offense. I recently discovered Yahoo! baseball and I'm still looking for stats to correlate. Last 3 starts is a good method. I know that as the year goes my predictions will become more accurate. Not all starters are going to be allowed to throw 9 in start 2 like Halladay. So May is when I'll start putting more on games. So far I'm mostly making 1 unit picks, and 2 units max.

Check out statfox game matchups for that three day to career matchup. In the same breakdown you'll see information on how well a pitcher fairs against righties or lefties. Also consider, who the cleanup pitcher is on the team. Who does the team like to put in to close out a losing series and how does he play in other conditions etc. etc.
On a side note...Giants come out banging em. Should be a good win I think. Cubs are just disappointing me. They are my team and I hope I wasn't biased in that pick. Never like betting against them, and I am always hoping that they'll pull through because they are the Cubs!.....nope.

I think I overestimated the wind today. I thought Bush would be meat as usual and give up 7 or 8. The worst part is I took over 10.5 this game and I need 2 runs in 9 outs.
I got -1.5 on SF 4 units to win 5 should be a good cash

At the moment I am not raising points for St. Judes her in SBR land. Between the games I've attended I've gotten over $500 worth of donations for them and gave the money to a person I trust to drive over to the branch office and give them the cash. I don't look at it that way, I think it's their way of saying thank you but I could be mistaken. The fact some donate/give is wonderful on the karma front for them.
