TWG's Baseball Picks (Through Sept.)
I'm new around here, so I thought I would throw out the picks that I'm going to be going on the rest of the season (with explanations, of course.). I will have at least 2 picks a day, at the very most 5. I will start with today, September 23, 2009.
Picks for 9/23/2009
1. Cardinals RL -1 1/2 (+135) (Smoltz vs. Norris) (Betting 3 units; to win 4.05U)
The Cardinals are already the favorite in this game, but I'm expecting another blowout. Norris faced the Cards earlier in the season, and went 7 shutout innings. Since the Cardinals have faced Norris in the past, I'm sure they will have more of a book on him (especially batters who have actually faced him) and get to him early and often (his ERA on the year is 5.03). Smoltz has been off and on, but had a strong outing against the Cubs on the 18th (6IP, 2ER). Expect him to pitch somewhere in the same realm as the 18th, especially against a team that will have a few players out there who will be trying to impress the new astros manager for a starting job for 2010.
2. Braves ML (-130) (Hudson vs. Pelfrey) (Betting 5 units; to win 3.85U)
First off, the Mets are extremely injured. They're well out of playoff contention and will surely have some AAA players out there. Mike Pelfrey of the Mets will be starting his 30th game of the season, and his ERA is ABOVE 5 (5.10). He let up 4 earned against the Nats in 7 innings, so expect a worse outing from him tonight. (Gave up 8 earned against Philly 2 starts ago.) Tim Hudson has been good since coming back from Tommy John surgery. 4 starts with a 1-1 record and a 3.70 ERA. Expect his ERA to drop and he should go 2-1 after facing a hurting Mets club without any confidence (they couldn't tie the game up after being down 1 run and having 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs!)
Those are my two bets for today. Agree to disagree,or go along with me.
Cheers!
