Calcio Storico translates as historic football and is apparently the game all football codes are supposed to have evolved from.

Every June in Fiorentino, Italy they have a tournament.

27 players per team dress up like a renaissance fair. Object is supposed to be to score goals by getting the ball in the narrow basket along each end of the field. 1 point for a goal and half point to other team if your shot goes over the top of the basket.

Punching, kicking, eye gouging, elbowing all legal tactics.



Only real rules appear to be 1 on 1 only and no sucker punches. The other guy has to be facing up to you. And once you pin your opponent they have to stay down until a goal is scored.

To start the game the 15 forwards from each team line up facing each other along the half way and once the cannon fires they all start fighting and it doesn't stop for 50 minutes. Without a break or subs.

The refs run around waving feathers at them to indicate penalties.
