UFC 206: Valerie Letourneau will retire if the UFC does not create 125lb division
This was covered before the fight, surely a fight that could have been called
either way just as easily, with Letourneau as the victor.
One has to wonder if UFC judges don't like complaints.
The UFC, despite being sold for billions to the WWE, still can't get it's act together,
many fighters are underpaid.
Valerie Letourneau lost so much weight she lacked the power and burned muscle off,
The next step being 135 which is 10 pounds over her natural weight of 125
(a most common female weight, by the way !) places her in the uncomfortable position
of having ot be 10 pounds too heavy or 10 pounds too light.
One would think the UFC has enough female base to create a 125 class, instead of
a gaping 20 pound gap between 115 and 135, and they DO have the fighters.
The problem is the UFC still doesn't pay its fighters enough money to travel with
their crews outside of their home countries. For example, Olivio Aubin-Mercier still
doesn't fight outside of Canada because it's not worth it, Joanne Calderwood was
flat broke without any money (barely could afford a cell phone) on her way to the
USA for a fight, the examples are many.
