McGregor showed up on weight and his head looks right, but Holloway is the faster, sharper, more durable fighter.

Here's our Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway prediction and UFC 329 betting preview: Holloway is a -225 betting favorite to send McGregor home tonight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The rematch headlines International Fight Week, airs live on Paramount+, and the main card starts at 9 p.m. ET, with these two expected to walk around 11:30 p.m. ET.

I'm on Holloway, and I'm fine laying the price. McGregor has been out of the game for five years, and I just don't see the version of this fight where he marches Holloway down and outpoints him or knocks him out. There's really no way. My favorite play is Holloway to win at -210, and if I'm isolating one bet, the Under 2.5 rounds at -120 is my best bet on the card.

💰 Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway best bet: Under 2.5 rounds (-120)

The under 2.5 is my best bet, and it starts with McGregor's own résumé. All but two of his 22 wins have ended inside the distance, and his last three losses ended early too. There was a second-round knockout by Dustin Poirier, the broken leg against Poirier a few months later, and the submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov before that.

McGregor's fights rarely reach the scorecards. Now put him across from Holloway, who put Justin Gaethje to sleep with one second left at UFC 300 and carries more pop up at 170 than people give him credit for. This should be fast and furious. I don't need Blessed to blitz him in the first round. I just need a finish before the 2:30 mark of round three, and everything about how these two fight points me in that direction. I’m laying two units on the under 2.5 at -120.

It's great to see McGregor show up on weight and looking the part, and his head seems to be in a better place heading into fight night than it's been in years. That part matters. What it doesn't do is erase five years on the shelf against a guy who has spent that whole stretch trading with the best fighters in the sport.

Holloway has been through the wringer lately and has worn some damage. His last loss was ugly, but that was Charles Oliveira dragging him into a grappling-heavy fight, not somebody outstriking him. On the feet, Holloway is the better fighter here. He's faster with his combinations, his defense is sharp, and his chin is one of the best the division has ever seen. The only man to ever knock him out is Ilia Topuria. McGregor, at 37 and cold after half a decade away, is not Topuria.

So how does McGregor win? He needs an early blast, the kind of left hand that ended José Aldo and Donald Cerrone, before Holloway's pace takes over. It's a live path in round one. It just gets thinner every minute the fight lasts, and Holloway has never been the type to fade late. I expect Blessed to weather the early storm, settle into his range, and break McGregor down until something gives.

Prediction: Holloway to win (-210 via bet365)

💡 How I'm handicapping McGregor vs. Holloway

My whole read on this fight comes down to durability and activity. Go back to 2020 and McGregor has lost three of his last four, and two of those were brutal: the knockout against Poirier, then the leg that snapped against him that same year. Stack a five-year layoff on top of a body that turns 38 a week after the fight, and that's a lot to ask of anyone, never mind against this opponent.

Holloway isn't flawless here. He might be a touch small at welterweight, and moving up in weight can cost a fighter a half-step. But he's the fresher, faster, more battle-tested man, and he's walking in off full camps against elite competition rather than a half-decade of rust. The -225 moneyline doesn't pay much, so if you share my confidence, you size up. Holloway to win is the safest play on the board, and it's three units for me.

From there, the value is in the method and the rounds. Holloway by KO/TKO at -120 is a strong number once you account for McGregor's durability questions. And the under 2.5 is the one I like most if you're only touching a single-round market. This just isn't a fight I expect to hear read off the judges' scorecards.
