Montreal looks to stay unbeaten through its first three away matches for just the second time in the club’s MLS history, having done so in 2020. Although they won last week, the Impact have generally struggled on the road, winning just two of their last 13 games away from home. Inter Miami has lost just one of their last 10 at home.
Inter Miami has won eight all-time home matches against Canadian opposition (L2), but both defeats came against CF Montreal in 2021 and 2022. Those teams didn’t have Messi and Suarez, who are terrorizing defenses right now. Messi is averaging a goal a game in MLS this season, and he has four goals in all competitions and one assist. This is the fourth time in Messi’s career that he’s contributed a goal in each of his first three league matches of a season and the first since 2013-14, when he scored in his first six.
The Argentine continues to lead the league in shots (18) and shots on target (eight), therefore he is creating opportunities for himself. Montreal’s xGA this season is 1.60, which is a small sample size. However, it is very similar to last year, which was 1.67 on the road. We cannot bet against him scoring whilst in this form.
