SEC Tournament Odds 2024: Auburn Outscores High-Flying Gators to Win Conference Championship

After opening with the second-shortest SEC Tournament odds, according to the college basketball odds, the Auburn Tigers won its second conference tournament under Bruce Pearl.

Led by All-American Dalton Knecht, the Tennessee Volunteers were expected to win the SEC Tournament after taking the conference regular-season title. However, Rick Barnes' team was upset by No. 9 seed Mississippi State in the quarterfinals, which opened the door for several other SEC contenders.

In the end, Auburn won its third conference tournament title in program history and the second under head coach Bruce Pearl. The Tigers entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed, but had the second-shortest odds across our March Madness betting sites.

After winning the SEC Tournament, the Tigers earned a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament and saw their March Madness odds across our best sportsbooks shorten. Despite shorter odds to win it all, Auburn was a trendy upset candidate among the college basketball picks.

Heading into the SEC Tournament, there was buzz around Tennessee potentially earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. But after dropping its only game of the conference tournament to the Bulldogs, it gave Auburn a clear path to the title. The Tigers knocked off Mississippi State in the semifinal before taking down No. 6 seed Florida in the championship - the Gators upset No. 3 seed Alabama in the quarterfinals to reach the title game.

After going 13-5 in SEC play behind big man Johni Broome, Auburn potentially returns five of its seven top players for the 2024-25 season. That makes the Tigers a threat to repeat under Pearl, despite Alabama and Tennessee likely being among the top teams in the conference once again. The wild cards are Kentucky and Arkansas after John Calipari left to take the Razorbacks job. And there's still a handful of interesting options to replace Cal in Lexington, according to the Kentucky next coach odds.
