British Open Sleeper Picks & Predictions 2023: Bradley Headlines Best Long Shots
The best golfers in the world are set to compete for the Claret Jug this week at Royal Liverpool. Itβs the final major championship of the year, and our British Open sleeper picks highlight our top long shots with odds of +5000 or higher from our best sports betting apps.
As the British Open odds continue to settle in the wake of the Genesis Scottish Open and Barbasol Championship, we're still finding value in three long shots as the oldest major returns to Royal Liverpool.
You can find our best wager on betting favorite Rory McIlroy in our British Open picks. This space will look to those available with odds better than +5000 as we scour our best sports betting sites in search of value in the outright winner market for the final major of the year.
Best British Open sleeper picks and predictions 2023
Min Woo Lee to win (+7000 via DraftKings)
Lee opened at around +15000 to win the British Open but is now down to this market-best price of +7000 via DraftKings while rising from No. 56 to No. 47 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) since the end of 2022.
The 24-year-old Australian tied for 21st in the 2022 Open Championship. After missing the cut in the 2023 Masters, he tied for 18th in the PGA Championship and posted a career-best major finish of T-5 in the U.S. Open. He'll now look to add his first major championship to his two career European Tour victories.
Lee tied for 35th in last week's Scottish Open despite lackluster play on approach to the greens. While that has been a struggle area for him of late, his long irons have been much better, as has been his driver.
Lee has British Open odds as low as +5000 at some of our other best sportsbooks so be sure to grab this ticket at BetMGM or PointsBet.
Corey Conners to win (+8000 via BetMGM)
After three straight top-10 finishes in the Masters, Conners missed the cut at Augusta National to open the 2023 major season shortly after claiming his second career PGA Tour victory in the Valero Texas Open. However, Conners then controlled the PGA Championship leaderboard for much of the tournament before a late stumble to a T-12 finish. He'll now hope for a similar rebound from his missed cut in the U.S. Open.
Links golf has suited the Canadian adequately in the last two years with finishes of T-15 and T-28 in the 2021 and 2022 British Opens, respectively. He also earned a T-19 finish in last week's Scottish Open with a final round of 4-under par to climb the leaderboard. He was excellent with his driver and long irons, and even enjoyed some better play with his putter. That play with the long irons has Conners ranked 26th in par-4 scoring for the 2022-23 PGA Tour season and will suit him well at Royal Liverpool.
Conners was available with +10000 odds Monday morning but those have dropped across the market. He's still a fine play at +8000 but I wouldn't make this bet at odds lower than this. However, I think they tick back up by Thursday's first round.
Keegan Bradley to win (+11000 via PointsBet)
These odds for Bradley to win the British Open are baffling.
The American ranks 15th in the OWGR (up from No. 25 at the end of 2022). He claimed his fifth and sixth PGA Tour victories this season. He's a former major champion (the 2011 PGA Championship). And he tied for 19th in the 2014 British Open at Royal Liverpool.
Yet, somehow, Bradley's available with +11000 odds via PointsBet with DraftKings offering odds as low as +9000.
The accomplished American didn't play in Scotland last week but has been riding a hot putter and strong iron play all season. He's also been among the longer drivers in this field across his last 20 measured rounds, and he excels on par 4s.
