UTEP head coach Dana Dimel has built the program from a one-win team to a squad that has won five games in back-to-back seasons, which is why we are not giving up on the Miners just yet.
UTEP should not be undervalued for its lack of success against stronger competition, as it’s an experienced bunch that is strong in the trenches. The Miners returned eight defensive players who totaled 200-plus snaps last year from a unit that ranked second in the conference in rush defense (136 yards per game) and total defense (352.9 yards per game).
And we look for the offensive line to have even more success in conference play after returning four starters from last year’s squad.

Against the most challenging part of the schedule thus far, the Miners offensive line has recorded an above-average 3.2 Line Yards per Rush. In addition, UTEP ranks third among CUSA teams in Passing Downs Success Rate.
We expect a balanced offensive attack to prove the difference against a Louisiana Tech defense that ranks below average in several defensive categories, including Stuff Rate, Line Yards per Rush, Explosiveness, and Passing Explosiveness, per College Football Data.
