The American Gaming Association (AGA) issued a press release Tuesday highlighting a record 31.4 million American adults plan to bet on Super Bowl LVI. Additionally, it’s expected bettors will wager an estimated $7.61 billion, which is up approximately 78 percent higher than last year’s $3.33 billion.

“The results are clear: Americans have never been more interested in legal sports wagering. The growth of legal options across the country not only protects fans and the integrity of games and bets, but also puts illegal operators on notice that their time is limited.” – Bill Miller, AGA President and CEO

Responsible gaming was also a primary focus, as the sports betting industry continues to invest in providing responsible gaming resources. Of particular note, the AGA recently relaunched HaveAGamePlan.org.

The campaign, founded by the AGA, connects leagues, teams, media, sportsbook, and other important industry players to help ensure sports betting education is approachable for fans.

Furthermore, the AGA noted 76 percent of bettors consider it important to personal bet through a legal operator, which is up 11 percent from last year.

There will also be an estimated 18.5 million Americans who will bet casually with friends or participate in a Super Bowl pool or squares contest, whereas 18.2 million will place a traditional bet online, at a retail sportsbook or with a bookie. Those two numbers are up 23 and 78 percent, respectively, over last year’s totals.

The momentum and growth the sports betting industry is experiencing ahead of Super Bowl LVI definitely correlates with 10 additional American states legalizing sports gambling since last year’s championship game. There are currently 30 states and Washington D.C. featuring legal sports betting markets with three additional legal markets awaiting launch.

Additionally, with March Madness beginning Tuesday, March 15, there’s plenty of reason to expect the current expansion of the sports betting industry to maintain its momentum.
